Had a nice pint of Thatchers Gold here earlier today, really comfortable pub which seems like it would have a good atmosphere later on in the evening

Great traditional British pub, with good traditional facilities. Our party enjoyed real good quality traditional (there's that word again) ales, lagers and ciders. Staff were exceptionally friendly and even assisted in transporting us 5 miles back home.

Booked the skittle alley for a birthday celebration on Christmas Eve and were made very welcome.

Got charged for juice but had very weak squash, the coke was carbonated water with not taste at all and the selection of food was very poor. How dissapointing!!

Stayed here last night and it was really unpleasant. The room wasn't clean and had a horrible smell like stale sweat and cigarettes covered up with lots of air freshener. The room was very tired and worn. There were lots of random bits of furniture in the corridors upstairs.

Very poor customer service, I wouldn't recommend staying here. I always try and support small independent hotels and B&B's, while travelling regularly on business, but was severely let down by this establishment, and it would appear that I'm not the only one. When I did eventually speak to the owner/manager, I was shocked by his attitude. I would never speak to any of my customers the way he spoke to me. I stayed in the Travelodge next time I was in Barnstaple, much more reliable with pleasant, friendly staff.

Not a five star restaurant but 5 star food and service. A typical good pub with a 2 steak meals and a bottle of wine for £25....excellent value.

Stayed here for 4 nights, as a base for walking the South West Coast Path. The location was ideal. It's only a few minutes walk into the town centre with easy access to bus routes. The staff were really friendly and the landlord was welcoming, friendly and very helpful. The room was small but spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. The pub food was good and the whole stay gave good value for money.
