Lovely old pub, friendly staff, clean toilets, beautiful setting. Only stopped for a drink and a quick bowl of chips, which were perfection, so we are definitely going back for a meal in the future.

A very nice welcome in a traditional Devon pub. Lovely roast dinner made with local farmers pork or beef with great selection of veg. Puddings are an art form with punchy flavours and beautiful presentation

This just became my new happy place. The best roast I've had in years, and a super chill country vibe. Look no further, come eat at this pub.

We are staying close by and decided to give this place a try, what a find! The best place we have eaten in a very long time, food was absolutely divine, cooked to perfection, hot and full of flavour, service was quick and friendly also very accommodating considering we only booked an hour before. We have already said we will come back just to go to this pub!

Amazing Food and a nice pub too!We have visited the Black Venus twice while on a short beak to Challacombe. They went out of there way to try and fit us in for all the 3 night we were there but they did manage to fit us in 2 of the nights. We found the staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.The food was superb on both visits and they had a good wine list too.All very Covid 19 safe too! We recommend you book well in advance of your visit as they get very busy.

I have known this pub for around 25 years and always visit when on Exmoor! It has never failed to impress.Family-run, cheerful welcome, tasty freshly-cooked food, good choice of dishes. Gets busy by 6pm at weekends even though it's located in quite a remote location. It's well worth the drive.
