The Southgate in North Devon

This used to be my favourite place to eat out. Went there for my birthday there, thinking it was the same, only to be hugely disappointed. New owners now, and the food was not enjoyable. Under cooked chips, burnt burger bun and cheap frozen burgers. Used to be all homemade dishes and amazing there. I miss the old owners!!! Come back.

Used to South Gate, favourite place to go but they have new owners now and the food is awful. You could cook better food at home. Everything was straight from the freezer, nothing homemade, all cheap frozen food. Used to be homemade and delicious. The owners were very friendly though but not suitable for a restaurant.

We booked a table for lunch, we were not disappointed by the food we were served, the staff were friendly and made sure we had everything we needed and kept us topped up with drinks. I would strongly recommend this restaurant

One of the best restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of eating in. The chef truly loves cooking and it shows. The staff are friendly and helpful. All the food is incredibly good and I recommend the cheese stuffed burgers and the cheesecake. By far my favourite thing on the menu though is the BBQ ribs which are the best I've ever eaten. They need to be booked in advance to avoid disappointment as they need to be marinated overnight before being slow cooked for a few hours. Since this place opened I have taken several people there who have all agreed that the food is incredible. Also booked the restaurant for a staff party and after we ate we had music and dancing until late. If it were possible to give more than five stars I would.

I had the pizza burger and let me tell you it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. It intrigued me a pizza burger that could go either way but it went the right way it was absolutely lush. It was mouth watering and the staff and chef couldn't be any nicer.

My husband & I have been here twice in the past month or so. The first time we had lunch with a friend & more recently just popped in for a cup of tea & coffee. On both occasions we have been served by Louisa who was really welcoming, professional & welcoming. The food was fab & very good value for money My husband is a bit of a "foodie" & he was really impressed with the quality of their burgers. Lovely place to pop for a cuppa or to stay a bit longer for a meal. Great food & great service.....definitely an asset for Barnstaple.

Nachos and cheese starter was a little disappointing. Otherwise though the food was great and staff helpful. Beef and chorizo burger was a good recommendation (comes with mac & cheese!)
