White Lion in North Devon

Decided to give this lovely looking pub a chance. Despite being told otherwise by some of the locals. So popped in on a Saturday night with the intention of having food and drinks. The pub seemed fairly busy. It must have been a youth club night or someone’s 18th birthday as there were a lot of younger people in the pub. When we arrived we went to the bar to order our drinks and and ask for a menu. We were told by the very young barmaid that the kitchen was closed and she was the only staff member on-site. We did feel it was a little unfair to leave this poor young girl on her own in a busy pub. There should’ve been more staff on to help her.

Disappointed. Kitchen is always closed and can never get food here. Also seems to be run by a girl who looks no older than 16. Not the pub it used to be.

Excellent Sunday lunch they offer large or small and all fresh too. Beef cooked perfectly Lamb was to die for and they allow dogs so perfect sunday. Apparently Sunday lunch is quite new for them, I would say well done and will definitely be back thanks all as you offer a friendly service with excellent fresh food.

Disappointed that, in spite of our higher than the UK Covid infection rates here, no masks were worn. The beer garden needs a lot of attention.

Fantastic welcome from the lovely young girl from behind the bar who is getting married shortly (good luck to you) food was great hot and very tasty and served in very quick time, had a lovely couple pints of real ale and will be returning soon, well done to all staff at the white lion for making us feel very welcome 😀

Staff (youngsters) didnt have much interest in thier roles or serve, decor a lot to be desired ie ripped carpets. Mens Toilets were dirty, toilet rolls on floor or on window as holder had been rippied from the tiles, u had to walk from the toilet to the wash bowl where the sanitizer bottle was empty with no hand towels, Will i visit again, Emphatic No.

Back to being a welcoming pub. Need to sort out the range of ales but times are hard to be fair. Every expectation that, with the present team, this place will be rocking again...Update: Dec 2020. Hosts, Del and Ant have done a great job bringing this pub back to life... above average pub food and a wide menu. Good selection of ales (although pub chains are limiting supplies at the Covid-uncertain time). Atmosphere is great, social distancing and hygiene regs are being dutifully observed, and it is a great place to be.

Went for tapas night on a Friday. Ordered everything off the menu! Fabulous authentic tapas, squid, green beans, patatas bravas etc. Washed down with the local ale. Friendly staff and nice beer garden. Inexpensive for location and child friendly. £105 for a tapas meal for six including two rounds of drinks.

Lovely people there and great food to, not to forget there's great choice of beers and Cider

3 cask ales. Great tasty food. Staff are very welcoming and a good atmosphere. Even has a selection of games. Traditional pub with a traditional menu. Scampi and chips one of the best I've had in a long time. Recommended. Only one negative thing is it's not really accessible. Apart from that brilliant.
