Absolute shocker of an evening. They were short staffed so prepared to be patient but both service and food dreadful.1. Waited an hour for starters. My beetroot and Goats’ Cheese was really unpleasant. Unbalanced flavours, vinegary and nasty. My husband’s Scotch Egg pretty mediocre.2. By the time the main courses came we had finished the red wine we had ordered. I suggested to the waitress that she might give us the two extra glasses we ordered on the house. She mumbled something about asking and ignored the request completely.3. Main courses arrive. My husband and I had the duck, haricot and Merguez sausage. Totally tasteless mush. My step- mother had soufflé which looked like a blancmange and was wet and claggy.Cheese and crumble similarly underwhelming- tiny portions of uninspired cheese and a very odd crumble. At no point did anyone ask us if we were happy with dishes - waitress seemed v inexperienced and nervous. At these prices that’s really not ok. No one came to bring the bill even though the restaurant was empty at this point. I had to go and ask and then we asked for a discount but only managed to get the service charge removed. This sells itself as a gastropub with prices to match. Maybe the actual chef was away - very frustrated at substandard food but even more at appalling service.

Would highly recommend The Museum Inn for the perfect 'smaller' wedding reception. The staff were all very accommodating and attentive to our needs. The food was delicious and a good selection. Considering this was a 'shotgun' wedding everything went very smoothly. Thank you very much to all involved.

Lovely meal but spoilt somewhat when over charged for 2 very small scoops of ice cream. ÂŁ6.50 when it was advertised as ÂŁ5. The waitress was dismissive of our query and just said that happens sometimes! The roast was excellent but the issue with the bill did leave us with a bad taste.

Finally, a hotel with car charging points. My room was excellent, very comfortable, and well appointed. The only downside wad the WiFi didn't penetrate into my room and the phone signal there was very low (vodafone).Breakfast starts at 08:30, which wasn't early enough for me but was well worth waiting for.I would definitely use this hotel again.

Just returned to holiday cottage after visiting The Museum Inn. Seems to have been take over as from today. Has a new GM and some HR staff from head office. All staff were fabulous, service exceptional and food outstanding. I cannot wait to return in a couple of days. Well done everyone, you are onto a winner. Keep up the great service and delicious food.

We stayed here on a walking holiday from InnTravel in October and had a great time, so we took the opportunity to meet two friends for lunch at the Inn last weekend. The welcome was warm and friendly, the food well-prepared and tasty and we very much enjoyed the afternoon. We stayed overnight and were equally impressed by the breakfast next morning. The Museum Inn a really good base for exploring the wonderful Dorset countryside and we will certainly be back soon.

Stayed overnight , good food and decent room Only complaint is breakfast doesn’t start till 830, no good if you need to leave early . But to their credit they took it off the bill . Nice touch

Beautiful setting. The service was a little slow and we needed to go to the bar to remind them of us in order to place our drinks orders. The menus though was delightful and we were pleased with everything we ordered other than the steak. I'm afraid it was a bit of a disappointment both in flavour and texture. It was tough and full of sinew, for ÂŁ18 I should have picked something else on the menu.
