The Trooper Inn in North Dorset

Great pub, very friendly, the heart of the picturesque village. Most reviews on Google maps reflect previous owners. Facilities and offerings have greatly improved and continue, even during the challenges of Covid.

The new owners of this delightful country pub have embraced the community and have produced a hidden gem. A decent uncomplicated menu with a great choice at good old fashioned pub food to cheese boards with a bottle of wine Very polite staff and a great atmosphere. Live entertainment on selected evenings through the month. Plenty of outside seating with coverage.

We had a lovely meal and drinks out in the garden at this pub. The food was great and an amazing selection of gins! We stayed at the campsite which was clean and peaceful. I will definitely return here and have already recommended it to other family members

Booked a table for Sunday lunch on the 4th July based on our previously excellent Bank Holiday visit.All the previous visitors were present plus a couple of extras and we were all looking forward to a traditional country pub Sunday lunch. Service was good as were the choice of beverages. The menu was sufficient for all tastes with roast chicken, pork loin, roast beef with two vegetarian choices of Mushroom and Brie Wellington and a “non-nut” Nut Roast. All good so far, so why the review? Even the 20 minute wait(which in reality was 40 minutes) for the Wellington’s to be heated from fresh was acceptable if the execution was spot on but unfortunately it wasn’t.Examples…?The Wellingtons were soggy instead of crisp.The vegetables were tinned or frozen which with the plethora of fresh seasonal vegetables available locally is almost criminal.And it just….disappointed. Maybe our expectations were too high or maybe our previous visit was the exception to the norm. I don’t know but I really do hope yesterday’s visit was the aberration. We were really expecting so much better but it didn’t materialise. I think it’ll be a long time before we visit again, which saddens us more than you can know.

We’ve been to the Trooper several times recently and it’s now one of our favourite pubs, always with a warm welcome. A lovely village setting makes for a very relaxed atmosphere. The landlord and landlady couldn’t possibly be more friendly and accommodating. The food is always good, and there’s plenty of it. No skimping on portions here! And to top it all, they stock my favourite flavoured gin, which is more than I can say about most other pubs we visit! We just wish we lived nearer so that we could get to the Trooper more often. Looking forward to our next visit, and are hoping to catch one of the live music events there soon.

One of the best roast dinners we have ever had! Took the whole family and everyone enjoyed the food and the service. We had to do a 5 mile walk afterwards, to walk off the huge portions! It was a really nice day, with the sun shining and a lovely atmosphere! We will be coming again very soon!We are also interested in trying out the curry night!Thanks!!

Spent a wonderful Bank Holiday Monday lunch here today. Extensive drinks menu with very good and very local real ales which old George enjoyed.Excellent service from Joe and a menu that catered to our disparate tastes. Both the cheese burger and vegetarian burger were very tasty and more than sufficient for a good appetite.The in laws had the beetroot and Brie tart and the gluten free variation of the same, both served with well dressed and fresh salad.and were very well received.We will be back soon and can only hope for a similarly excellent pub in our village of Milborne Port.

A wonderful family-run pub in the heart of this beautiful Dorset village - The Trooper has it all. Delicious food, great service, a very friendly atmosphere, a fantastic range of local beers and gins and now – thanks to work during lockdown – a huge beer garden with plenty of covered areas to sit outside. Debbie and her family took over the Trooper just months before the first lockdown and have done a really great job. We hope to visit again very soon and would heartily recommend.

Possibly the worst food I have ever eaten.I went for a Sunday roast.Tinned carrots, peas were so over cooked they looked like they were tinned also, aunt Bessie's roast potatoes,Yorkshire puds and parsnips.The meat was as dry as cardboard and the smallest portion imaginable.It gets worse, the gravey was chicken soup! It even had celery in it, was......yuck.I don't like leaving a bad review for any business but this was a total piss take.To the pub,not only are you charging top whack for your food, but to think you can give out hospital food and not get slated for it is mad!You guys need to check out out what your competitors are serving. Way of the mark!We are local and would have come back many many times.Now all I do I tell people how bad my food was at your pub.All your photos on Google are stock images clearly not yours, this is fraudulent!Worst pub in Dorset for food! Shame on you!

This pub has served its village fantastically well throughout the covid-19 pandemic and the villagers appreciate the pub team for everything they've done! Breaking News. Camping is Back!
