The George at Backwell in North Somerset

This pub has gone downhill recently. You can blame Punch who clearly forgot the "if it's not broke don't fix it" rule. Punch clearly thought they could do better than the existing tenants so took back control. Not looking good so far.

Great to be back since before Covid. We had tried to book in before but there were no vacancies. Ideally placed and local for our visit.Even better given that the new manager only took the reigns two nights before our arrival with a couple of staff that were left. We were welcomed and felt comfortable. The food was as good as I remember especially the breakfasts.On the downside, only a couple of selections on the menu for my Coeliac wife to choose from but we were assured this is to be improved and the room we were in was adequate if now a little tired.I would recommend staying here and we will be back.Thank you for having us under the circumstances.

Great Saturday afternoon lunch, superb choice of food & each dish was well cooked & value for money. Lovely pint of Butcombe with attentive staff who couldn't do enough for you. Highly recommended and will definitely be back.

A good place for well kept local beer and a ‘notch above’ the normal pub food. Pleasant staff, trad interior and good exterior fine-weather seating.

Superb sunday roast. Great location, nice outdoor seating area as well. Service with a smile, only criticism is that they seemed to forget about me when they look my plate away and had to go to the bar for the bill. Minor issue though, very impressed and will be back for sure.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Friendly staff and dogs welcome too. On the pricey side, but worth it. The meals were delicious.

Fantastic Sunday lunch (coming from someone who is pretty indifferent to roast dinners). The staff were very welcoming and the service very swift. Lovely surroundings in the pub too.

Excellent food, good atmosphere in the bar too. Comfy room and great value. Breakfast overlooking the central courtyard.Getting into Bristol was quick.One major attraction was on-site parking, something lacking in the city.

We had a delicious meal here and the service is what made it for us! We enquired about taking our puppy and were assured he'd be welcome (first time taking him to a pub with the family!). We were given the perfect table, near a door in case we needed it. Doggy pale ale was well received (water for the dogs but so nicely done!) and we left confident we could do it again, with a lovely meal to boot. Thank you!

Beautifully decorated pub, with a large courtyard dining area plus grassy garden, set back from the main road. Plenty of parking and good adherence to Covid guidelines!We ordered food, waiting over an hour for it to be served, although it was a bank holiday, so not really surprising. Pizza was delicious, plenty of cheese, just wish the toppings were more plentiful and covered the entire pizza! Very family-friendly place, too.
