The Rising Sun in North Somerset

I booked here for an overnight stay on return from Bristol Airport. We anticipated arriving at 2.00 am. I checked with the staff and they said this wouldn't be a problem and to phone reception to get instructions to get in at that time. This I did this morning and was told that they would email the details to me so that I had written instructions. 2 hours later I received an email stating that it was cancelled due to the hotel being sold and not functioning in the following 2 weeks!!! Very strange!!!

It's quite good for a pub and/or a B&B but I don't know if I would go as far as calling it a "gastro pub" myself. Limited menu for non red meat diners, 1 vegetarian dish and 2 sea food dishes. I ordered myself the vegetarian dish and it's only fair to say my aubergine had bathed in oil - could not finish it. Limited beers on tap and only crisps for bar snacks.The room was recently refurbished, all the furnishings were good. I had a restful sleep. The tea tray selection was a nice touch. The bottle of water is much appreciated.The staff were courteous and helpful. Overall above average.

Very impressed with the Sunday roast. Had a roast chicken and the red cabbage to go with it was one of the best I’ve ever had. Family also had roast pork and was very impressed. Service was good and drinks good. They even have kids cutlery which not all pubs have. The interior area is very nicely decorated and modern and clean and they have a good outdoor area with kids play area which seems quite new and good fun for my little one.

The amount of time we hade to wait to get our dinners was terrible the service was very poor the dinners were very small still hungry after eating it asked the waitress what was soup of the day she never ever came back and told us still don't know when paying the bill there was a service charge and the waitress said you don't need to pay this so she new the service was bad

Cooked to order breakfast ranging from a full English (with 11 year old approved hash browns) through to a decent serving of sourdough toast, butter and jam. I thought the food was lovely, the staff were kind and welcoming and a nice place if you want a treat for breakfast.

Arrived at the pub with a friend, late Sunday afternoon, to discuss some business.It was way past the time frame for food, but, despite this, all the staff were more than accommodating and the wonderful chef served up two, much appreciated, Sunday lunches at 5 p.m. !! Apart from that, the room was quiet and tastefully decorated, so very highly recommended. What more can I say, a deserved 5*****

The restaurant has a great ambiance, good music and a really friendly staff.I would personally recommend the Aubergine Katsura Curry. It comes with breaded aubergine, Pak Choi and crushed potatoes.

We had a lovely time at The Rising Sun. Johanna and Jo looked after us really well. Comfortable and warm rooms at good prices, tasty breakfast included when you book direct, helpful friendly staff. Dog-friendly is a huge plus!

Nice beer, bar atmosphere to the left, slightly more foody ( but still pleasant) to the right. Good food.

The roast looked great, although the venison was quite underwhelming; tasted good but a very small portion for the price. There was no carb with it, which a again would have been expected for the price.All in all friendly staff, and reasonably tasty food, but overridden by poor portion size and expensive
