Consistently brilliant! We've ordered a few times now (since the new 5 star food hygiene rating in the summer) and every time the food has tasted incredible. The name 'Spice Merchant' seems so appropriate given the amazing flavours each dish has as a result of the spices used, rather than them just throwing lots of sugar and salt at the dishes to get flavour like most places do. My favourite dish has to be the king prawn bhuna! I've tried a lot of Indian takeaways in Plymouth and the South West (possibly too many), and this place is by far my favourite.Another small touch I like is that everything doesn't seem as artificial as some places. I find it really off-putting when the mint yoghurt looks more like nuclear waste because it is so green, and the other dishes are also bright colours, whereas here, it seems as though it's only the spices used that give the dishes their colour. Nothing ever seems to be swimming in oil either unlike some places.The only negative I can think of is that the chicken tikka starter is sometimes a little dry, even though the flavour makes up for it. I wonder if the chicken is at least partially pre-cooked because the food is always ready really fast.Nonetheless, we'll definitely be back many more times!

Terrible Customer Service: Visited Spice Merchant in person and ordered take away. Got home and found my main dish was missing. Girlfriend called the Indian and said I would have to drive back and pay for it. No offer of discount on dish due to their mistake. My dish wasn’t even registered on their till so they didn’t write it down when I ordered. Will go to Nibana in future.

Ordered by phone, meal was delivered in 40 minutes very hot and with larger portions than expected. Everyone enjoyed it and thought it was good value.

First time ordered to eat at home and it was fantastic, everything was hot and spot on for quality, little pots of sauce for bahjee great touch and tiny salad bowl. Very happy customer def be back yum yum yum

The best tasting and most consistent curry we've had in Plymouth, and have been using them for 7 years now. Highly recommended and comparatively a great price too!

Literally the best curry takeaway i have eaten at. Nothing compares the food is exquisite, and of top quality. Honestly you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend

I ordered the food from this place twice now. First time we ordered through the just eat , food was ok but they messed up the order by not giving the rice and charging us for 2 of milk rice too.today I ordered the food at 7.10 to be delivered 8.10pm and first they asked was the postcode and confirmed it as my address. But she write down the incorrect address. Instead of road she write it as street. they delivered the food at 9.20pm. I have phone twice to ask where the food was she never said once its going to be this late but said driver on his way. never apologised for her mistake but was rude and keep saying its out of my control. We have lost our appertie by waiting for this. so i decide to ask for a refund at about 8.50pm cancelling the food, she said she will not refund the money. Really bad customer service.

First, and last, time using this takeaway. Food arrived fairly quickly and was hot. The mixed starter not too bad but the two curries ordered lacked flavour were oily and the lamb was tough as old boots. Had to bin so an expensive mistake!

I have ordered from spice merchant regularly for what is probably over 10 years, I can’t think of a time when it has been anything other than excellent! All the staff are always friendly, the food is always delivered quickly and it’s always fresh, delicious and hot! I would never order from anywhere else!I’ve read other people’s reviews on here and nearly everyone is more than happy with spice merchant, the people that have left bad reviews are probably never happy with anything and probably don’t know what good food tastes like!Thanks spice merchant, I’ll be ordering again soon (as always)Jack
