Call in the RSPB!!!!This little birdie needs to attend a customer services course! Traditionally, in a pub when you order a drink that is advertised on the menu, the bar staff acknowledge it, make the drink and charge you the advertised price. I don’t think that’s over simplifying it. However, when I ordered 3 espresso martinis last night the person serving me grimaced. He then spoke to his supervisor who whispered something and then rang the advertised £8 each drink into the till. What should have been a £24 round was coming in at nearly £35. I questioned the cost and he mumbled something about his supervisor and then said ‘l don’t know’ and promptly walked away. He then came back with the supervisor. They proceeded to tell me they hadn’t got the mixer and it needs to be made a different way, I can take it or leave it. At this point I said ‘I think I’ll leave it because the drinks are advertised at one price and you want to charge me another. ‘I came back a few minutes later to order a rum and Coke. A different woman is serving a gent next to me. He commented on the fact that it’s not fair that I couldn’t have my drinks at the advertised price as the issue is with them. She responded with ‘I don’t want to get into this ‘ and walked off. I didn’t get served!I’m sorry to say the shambles continued! A friend of mine went up and ordered a round of espresso martinis paying the extra and they tasted like, what I imagine dishwater to taste like. When this was challenged at the bar; there was no sugar syrup in them, the bar person stated that they were out of syrup but decided to make them anyway. She tasted one and said it was missing the syrup but she likes hers bitter anyway. I think she was referring to her attitude!Living less than half a mile away this would be a lovely local to visit. I’m not saying I’ll never go there again but I will certainly won’t choose to go there or recommend it.

We had a meal at the Avocet on Monday night, the staff are very miserable, the food was awful and there was a group of 6 people acting like 10 year olds. This was the second time we had been there, first time was not very good but wanted to give it another chance. What a awful place, considering they have so much competition around them. Let’s hope they don’t blame COVID for this badly run pub.

Popped in to the Avocet today expecting to have lunch. Pub looked good from the outside and obviously had a makeover. I personally felt it had lost the relaxed atmosphere of the Cow but was happy to give it a try. We ordered drinks and my glass of prosecco looked half empty. I checked with the bar attendant who confirmed it was correct. 5 sips at approximately £1.50 a sip. Payment by card only no cash!. As we had plenty of cash to spend we decided to move on to another pub where cash was king. However the staff were friendly and welcoming and the pub was clean.

My son and daughter hired a function room for our Grandsons Christening party for family and friends. We were well catered for and the pub is very well appointed. I would recommend this for a function, and to eat and drink.
