The Bankes Arms Country Inn in Purbeck
Where is The Bankes Arms Country Inn?
🏠 Manor Rd, Studland, Swanage BH19 3AU
"The Bankes Arms Inn and Hotel in Studland, Dorset, could set the standard for every other traditional country pub. Dating back to the 16th century and built from local quarried stone, the pub is surrounded by lush Purbeck countryside. The pub has welcoming open fires in winter and a large pub garden for refreshing drinks in summer But not every other country pub is this close to the sea, with continuous views across Studland Bay towards Bournemouth and the Isle of Wight. As a result, we are just a short stroll to both the beach and the iconic chalk sea stacks of Old Harry Rocks. The pub is ideally situated at the gateway to the famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and is a perfect base to explore the rest of the coastline."

A nice spot but no vegan options in sight (despite having a “vegetarian and vegan” section). More concerning is that they couldn’t even just take the cheese off a veggie option, showing everything is entirely pre-prepared and just heated up.Ordering via the website is very poorly implemented too. We were there at 11:55, food service opens at 12:00 and so the online menu couldn’t be viewed during this time, which was a bit odd in itself. To get the process going I asked for a physical menu to view but they didn’t have one which was extra odd

Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere and really tasty food! Tom the barman was brilliant, very friendly and made great suggestions on the best beer and wine they had on offer! Also very good value and quick service, would definitely recommend to anyone!

Get in early, and preferably during the week as it can get incredibly busy around the weekends, and especially in summer. Food and drink has been lovely, and the staff are really helpful and polite, although when it's crowded, there aren't enough hands on deck. It is Dog, boot, and child-friendly everywhere, with plenty of space outside for a hot summer day and is pleasantly informal, but comfortably warm. As the whole area is National Trust, one must pay a small fortune to park, but it's actually worth it here.

Bad experience is due solely to terrible customer service. First the guy who took our request was quite arrogant and nearly called us idiots because we didn't know how to classify the type of beers, which made me and my wife quite uncomfortable as not everyone knows especially if you're from abroad. Second we ordered chips with cheese on top. Unfortunately I did not check the receipt. We were served chips without cheese. That's ok.. but when we went back to ask for the right request we were basically called liars when the same person said he was 100% sure we did not order with cheese. He said he's been doing this for years.. what? Calling customers liars? Or knowing that you never make mistakes?.. at the end less bad we got the right order without charging us the extra.. but honestly between calling you liar and charging the right amount I would pay for it. It wasn't about money. But simply customer service principles which I believe calling 2 people liars is quite bad. By the way.. the chips were half fried

The Bankes Arms is a great pub in an amazing location. We had a dog friendly room looking straight over the sea. Beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable. Great value for money at £95 including breakfast. We didn't eat here but the that was being served in the bar looked excellent. Definately recommended it.

Stopped by after a lovely walk to old Harry rock's... Great location and what a lovely place, the food was great and was a lovely atmosphere in the pub... highly recommend.. if we are ever that way again then we will be sure to pop in for lunch again...

Nice pub with some decent real ales, but the food was a bit of a disappointment: fish and chips, burger and chips, scampi and chips, and none of it particularly well done. Seems to be the only proper pub around here, so I suppose they're used to not having to try too hard.

Situated in Studland in a lovely spot overlooking Poole Harbour and ideally located for a nice walk to the Old Harry Rocks and surrounding countryside. Particularly pleasant on a warm sunny day are the views from the pub garden situated opposite the pub. There is a large adjacent car park, although this is operated by the National Trust and is chargeable to park unless you are an NT member or Blue Badge holder. Food is good, reasonably priced and usually well-sized portions. The pub is often busy, especially at weekends, due to its popularity and location.

For the rubbish reviewers....Went to the bankes arms today despite reading some bad reviews about waiting times, surelyness, difficulties with the app, payment etc.Well....walked straight in and got a table. Read the clear directions on how to order. No problem getting on the website with the free WiFi provided, easy to use, navigate and order, although not being able to order a lemonade with blackcurrant juice was a minus point.Website said they were short staffed so apologised for any extended wait....drinks would be 10 mins, food 20 mins..... Drinks turned up within 5 mins and the food within 10. That was with a fairly busy occupancy. Lamb shank was absolutely terrific....nearly put off ordering that because the menu photo looked like a few burnt drumsticks so it was very refreshing the reality was much better than the advertisement.Table service excellent. Dorset apple cake for pud was equally delicious.Fully understand the reasons behind implementing such a service which I think achieves all of its objectives and every individual can respect socially distancing rules we currently live under whilst enjoying a thoroughly great meal. Many thanks for providing a lovely anniversary lunch for my wife and I.

A thoroughly lovely pub with very friendly & welcoming staff. They were very accommodating in preparing us two takeaway roast dinners and desserts and they were the tastiest meals we have had in a long time. The portions are good and very good value for money.I will definitely return and 100% recommend.
