The Dorset Kitchen & Fairways Restaurant in Purbeck

Spontaneously decided to have lunch here while we were in the area. Like its sister hotels elsewhere in the country, this shabby-chic estate also boasts a stunning location overlooking the bay.We had lunch on the terrace and shared a few dishes which were all nicely prepared and tasty. However we thought that portion sizes were quite small given the prices of the dishes and hence left a bit hungry. One certainly pays quite a bit for the stunning view!Tip: Further down, behind the terrace, there is another section where they serve Pizza which we heard was quite good and a bit cheaper - and the views are the same!

An amazing house and outbuildings set in a beautiful location. We had warm, sunny weather for our visit too which was a bonus.Arrived early and had drinks and pizza out on the lawn in the sunshine.Our room was available early as well. Check in was quick, efficient and pleasant.The evening meal was very good. The piggy bites very tasty.Our plates were cleared!The Pig sets great store by serving produce they have either grown themselves or have sourced locally, usually within 25 miles.My only minor criticism is that a couple of times we asked for something and didn't quite what we had asked for. Now this was not disastrous and quite trivial, but just enough not to give the full five stars.In conclusion, it's a beautiful hotel situated in a wonderful location.I highly recommend it.

Beautiful, comfortable room overlooking the garden and sea. Friendly staff and an amazing location. Lovely menu, a bit different to many restaurants, but not overly quirky. Comprehensive wine list. Not cheap, but you couldn't do better for a special occasion.

The Pig is a truly beautiful building, the former country home of the local aristos. The location is great with superb views. The offering is a bit mixed. As a restaurant guest you have to queue at the pub bar, a bit odd. The food was a bit hit and miss. A couple of the dishes were not up to standard for the price and expectation. Overall a good experience but the food could improve.

We only popped in for a drink, but we would recommend visiting! The views across the bay were excellent, and the spacious and beautiful gardens were a perfect setting for a drink and watching the sunset. They also had delicious alcohol free cocktails!

Some beautiful food and a fab location. I'm not the biggest fan of added service charges to an already expensive menu though and the drinks menu was a bit too botanical for me. All in all well made food and it's great that it is sourced and grown locally.

Just the best getaway bolt hole. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed. The kitchen garden is amazing and the menu is based on produce from 25 miles away or closer. Rooms are high end, roll top baths. If you book you wont be disappointed.

Went for dinner and had a decent if not great meal. We'd been to another pig hotel previously (few years back) and been very impressed. This time the service was not so good with staff not fully acquainted with the menu. We had a good but relatively expensive meal. The sommelier was pretty condescending when we weren't interested in paying over £40 for our wine.It feels like the people behind the pig are focusing more on growing than making sure they retain their previous high standards.

We had dinner here. Its always busy and has a great atmosphere with staff that really look after your every need.The best starter in the menu is the portland crab bake...tasted amazing. The onion tart, not so good, the onion was still crunchy and it lacked flavour. Mains were a lamb chop, tasty but a but dry and the Ox liver. The liver tasted great but the sauce had a touch too much acidity. Deserts, blood orange sorbet, absolutely delicious, and a almond tart, very tasty.So....Good food, but you need to choose carefully from the menu, some dishes are not as good as others. I suppose given its name, the menu is also very pork and meat in general focused, so quite heavy.

A stunning location but sadly the food did not live up to expectations.Recently spent two nights here. The room and all the hotel facilities were excellent and we could not fault. Diner however was disappointing with an unambitious menu and sadly average quality. A good choice at breakfast but again average quality if you chose the cooked options .
