The Fish Plaice in Purbeck

Excellent fish and chips. The chips were nice and crispy and the fish moist and perfectly cooked. Service was prompt and efficient.

Sunday lunchtime fish & chips for 4 people, sat in the restaurant upstairs, Food was excellent! Service was poor unfortunately, forgot items so waitress needed reminding, then she lost the order, wasn't busy either, also a bit expensive for 'fish & chips'.

I have eaten fish and chips from the Fish Plaice several times and have never really been disappointed. Yes, they get busy and there’s always a queue but the service is pretty good, and the food was piping hot. Not the largest portion of chips I’ve ever had, but still more than enough for one person (I do worry about the sheer volume of chips given as a single portion in some places). The chips were crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside - just as I like them! The battered sausage, my choice today, was good quality, tasty and very well cooked. I’ll definitely come back again.

Just the best fish and chips, and what a wonderful array of choice and they even do gluten free once a month. The pea fritter is amazing the batter is light crunchy and delightful. Highly recommended

Bought chips large jumbo sauce and a drink…£6.90 expected a good mealAwful chips and a jumbo sausage in batter undercooked yuk. The staff were more interested in watching the cricket….Tourist trap expensive and poor quality

Very nice fish and chips but quite expensive, £6.80 for a small cod and chips. Suppose it's fresh, but not sure I'd pay that amount again, however I recommend it to anyone visiting Swanage though. The staff seemed alright, but the gut serving me seemed more interested in serving and getting you out rather than cracking a smile.

Excellent chips and fish cakes. Fish is very tasty, not greasy, fresh oil. Saw a review saying low quality, ate there with my girlfriend and both agreed probably the best fish and chips we have had. Highly recommended.

Popular, well located on the sea-front, The Fish Plaice has a high reputation for service and food quality. After queuing for 10 minutes (mid week, 6pm) my cod (large) and chips (regular) were very good indeed. Portion was generous and next time I might reduce portion size. Recommended, although watch put for scavenging gulls!

Read rave reviews on this place, but unfortunately didn't live up to expectations. Chips were almost as if they'd been reheated? Both fish and chips tasted like old dirty cooking oil xx very disappointing.
