Lucy, Don & staff, couldn't have made our stay any better. Very attentive but not overbearing. Its obvious they've been in hospitality for some time as they know how to be efficient in a very relaxed manner. The rooms are ample and spotless and the bed so comfortable you soon drift off into slumber.I highly recommend Bodkin house for a very enjoyable stay !

Don’t go out of your way for a visit, unfriendly staff, refused a few drinks in an empty bar

Food not good. Glass filthy on bottom. Was greeted by someone in slippers. This place could be great eith a good clean and a different cook.

Fantastic food, but watch out the prices on line are not what you always pay, especially steak Thursday!

We stayed at Bodkin House on New Years Eve in order to have a quiet celebration of the start of 2022.A large car park can be found situated off of the main road which can hold many cars. This car park leads round to the side of the house and the side entrance to the hotel/restaurant. As you enter you are greeted by the welcome desk and a large feature stove on your right, the house bursting with period features. We were met by Don - the co-owner of the hotel with his wife - who was immediately friendly, hospitable and incredibly welcoming. He led us to our room which was named the George Elliot (the rooms appeared to be named after famous writers of the era). We entered a medium size double room which was nicely and neatly arranged with a clean and tidy bathroom. The room was cold when we entered but Don informed us that a previous guest must have turned the radiator down so he rectified this and brought us a storage heater whilst the radiator warmed up. We started to get ready and unfortunately noticed a few flies entering from a loft hatch within the room. We put this down to a very old house and the sudden change in temperature. I let Don know and him and his daughter Lucy immediately moved us to the next room along apologising profusely, but this could not be helped and was certainly not of their doing. We were housed within the Emily Bronte room which was a twin room with two single beds but slightly larger than the previous with a much larger walk in shower bathroom. Again the room was neat, tidy, well presented and had everything you needed and expected for a hotel stay, with coffee, teas and a kettle ready. In the cupboard was also an iron with a small ironing board which I used to prepare a shirt for our evening meal. The beds were incredibly comfortable and we both had a very good night's sleep. You could choose to eat dinner within the bar or the restaurant but we chose to sit in the bar as it featured a huge open fireplace which we sat next to, offering warmth and comfort during the evening. Don, Lucy and other staff members were happy to cater to your every need and were on hand throughout the evening. We decided on a bottle of Prosecco with our meal and chose the Camembert starter which arrived smooth and warm with fresh bread to dip within. My partner chose the pork belly which was very tender and tasty with crispy crackling on the top. I chose the Rib-Eye steak requesting rare and it was cooked just right and seasoned well. Portions were generously sized for the price. I then chose the Apple Crumble for dessert which again was a generous size and came within a small dish served with custard. We booked our breakfast for 0930 in the restaurant and had the Salmon with Scrambled egg and the Full English. All food was cooked nicely and the service was yet again incredible, with fresh coffee and orange juice seemingly on tap from Don & Lucy.Upon leaving we settled what was left of our tab from our meal and stood chatting with Don and Lucy before we left. They are clearly a passionate family run business who deal in people as a business. They want to know about you and how best to cater for you and are generally interested in the stories you have to tell whilst providing many of their own. We will continually recommend Bodkin House to family and friends and thank the family for such a lovely one night stay!

Driven past this place many times, so glad we finally stopped for a meal! The service was amazing, super friendly and lovely. We had our dog with us and he was made a real fuss of which was really lovely. Nice big fire kept us nice and warm after a big walk in Westonbirt. The food was so tasty, we had vegetarian lasagne and the pork belly; followed by the cheeseboard and a marmalade special desert. Overall, it was an amazing experience and we're excited to go back! Would highly recommend!

A group of six of us walked in, waited while they served a table with their drinks, politely asked where we should sit for drinks, to be told they're closed. Bye bye. Won't stop here again.

Nice old country hotel. Fantastic staff and great food. In fact after we checked out and drove to Devon we returned with family for Sunday lunch. Been guests there twice and have not been disappointed.

Our family of 4 (2 kids) stayed 2 nights and we really enjoyed our stay. We felt welcomed and looked after the whole time.We had the Beatrix Potter room, which had a double bed and an extra bedroom with 2 single beds in it. It was great having extra space in the rooms to spread out a bit more. The rooms were designed and decorated perfectly, with nice touches but not too delicate, meaning we don't risk our kids breaking things. The shower was very nice with good pressure. It seemed newly renovated. The breakfast was good too, everything you'd expect. The pub and restaurant was nice. We ended up having 3 courses for dinner one night and all of them were delicious. I recommend the raspberry cheesecake. The outside part of the restaurant was nice and big where you can go for a walk. There was also a small playground and swing for the kids, albeit slightly rundown but our kids still enjoyed it.
