Small, cosy pub. Fitted us in even though they were full. Portions were large and well cooked. The owner and the locals were friendly and nice to chat to.Only issue, no parking 🤔

·

Excellent fish & chips in a friendly old pub

·

Not cheap to eat there but the Pate and Fish n Chips were excellent, a warm welcome on arrival, service was faultless and friendly..

·

One of the best pubs we've ever been to in the UK. Every thing a proper pub should be. Friendly staff and customers. Cosy. Nice outdoor space. One of the best.

I must say I find the last review laughable, the comment about retirement. The reviewer appears to be prolific but restricts followers. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about; it’s a shame he was too late for lunch and vented his annoyance online instead of returning during opening hours. The DB has been a firm favourite of mine for a couple of years and, yes, they have old fashioned hours but they also have old fashioned respect and values - and above and beyond that, food that is second to none. You won’t get a better steak, fish ‘n’ chips or gammon in the area and more importantly a genuine welcome. It’s the best family-run pub in the area.

I had the most amazing Gammon Steak last night cooked perfectly by Mike and served by Jill who looked after me all evening making sure everything was perfect for me. Hannah kept my glass full. What an amazing trio. Thank you all for a wonderful evening. 5 Stars

Places like this should be OUT OF BUSINESS! 1.30pm Sunday and empty.. turned away as "they have finished now and close at 2pm" . AVOIDUpdate after reply:An old fashioned pub for sure, must be very unpopular to be completely empty Sunday lunchtime half hour before closing time. Sign up in road saying food which was obviously why we stopped it was still there when we went in to be accosted at the door. See other 1 star comments. You would think 30 years in the business they would have learnt how to serve customers so they were teaming with them rather than empty. Others will see my reviews good and bad for all sorts of pubs restaurants and hotels. I stand by my comments. If you can't open reasonable times, serve good food and drink then maybe its time to retire and leave it to a "modern " publican.

The looks of the pub itself do not give the food any justice. Very delicious meals we had. Proper pub meals. Wish I took photos but I would highly recommend. The place itself needs some upgrading.

This is a proper pub, an elusive commodity these days. A gem tucked up the hill on Church St. The food is excellent and in particular the fish and chips are on another level, no one in the town or local area comes close. You can order Fish & Chips to collect well worth the effort.

I've eaten fish and chips in so many places around the UK. Some good, some I wouldn't feed to my dog.I have just REALLY ENJOYED what I consider the BEST FISH AND CHIPS EVER!!!So Cod and Chips twice, delivered within 15mins of order, card payment as well. So a business with the customer in total focus, unlike other providers still stuck in the 'cash only middle ages culture. The cod was wholesome, chunky, meaty in texture and full of flavour. The batter was wafer-thin and not filling. The chips were cooked to perfection, crisp outside fluffy inside and not coated in fatty oil/soggy.I will now only recommend Dodbrook Inn for fish and chips and its brilliant customer service.Martin
