We enjoyed the tasting menu with the accompanying wine journey last night. The food was beautiful, tasty and inspiring in equal measure. Ellie was front of house and its clear how important everything is to her. Although I'm sure she just wants to be in the kitchen cooking, being front of house really suits her and it made our night. We will definitely be back next time we're here.

Had a lovely lunch with my family for my mum’s birthday. Ellie and her team were really attentive (a truffle finish with a Happy Birthday plate) and the most delicious, thought out menu. Very delicious.

We revisited The Angel last night and feel the restaurant is now even better. There has been a redecoration and new soft furnishings to deaden the noise. Soft jazz music added to the atmosphere. There was a tasting menu or an a la carte menu to choose from. I had the cured salmon and turbot with butter sauce and finally cherry souffle. All were beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. However, the most positive thing was the way they dealt with my husband's garlic allergy. We get so used to him being told what he can't have and very few items left on the menu that he can! At the Angel Ellie came to speak to us and explained all items were possible - just sometimes with a different sauce. So he had lamb as a main with an apricot sauce instead of the jus. It was beautifully cooked and the sauce went well with it. There was a great atmosphere with Ellie front of house looking after all her diners with care and a great sense of humour. We look forward to returning on our next visit.

Classic style cuisine. Quite a formal feel to the restaurant, sometimes service was a little stilted. Superb Turbot dish. Crab risotto was slightly overcooked. Nice amuse bouche. Price was high, not convinced the cooking was at that price point.

Excellent food and service. Accommodated my preferences and staff were friendly and professional.

Wonderful. Elly is every bit as good as expected.

One of the top dining experiences we had in the Devon area over the past 12 months - we went with the Vegan tasting menu, it knocked the ball out of the park with every new course, terrific attention to detail & ingredient creativity. Decor pretty casual.

I haven’t been to the Angel since Joyce Molyeneux died and have to admit that I was a little disappointed with the experience last night. Not that I didn’t have a great meal... Elly Wentworth can definitely cook, that is not up for discussion. However, the overall experience is not where it needs to be to charge the money they’re charging...the service is most definitely not there. They’re not lacking enthusiasm...they’re lacking a firm hand front-of-house to train the people they have to operate at Michelin levels. I ate the following night at RockFish and, the food was less satisfying in most ways, the price was 60% less and the service was honest and straightforward...exactly what you’d expect at RockFish (and the food, while primarily firmed, was all executed incredibly well.We didn’t go for the tasting menu...we went with a starter & main instead. We both end the scallops to start and this was probably the highlight of the meal...just a fabulous mix of flavors from the perfectly cooked scallops to the pickled hazelnuts. Very nearly the perfect creation. However, neither of us had quite the same high opinion of our fish main courses, although my halibut was quite enjoyable. The pre-dessert was pretty average, 3 of the 5 cheeses (which we chose for the dessert course) were excellent but the other 2 disappointing and the coffee was fine (but does anyone judge the quality of a restaurant from the coffee?). If I could grade it out of 10, I’d give my dinner last night a 7/10...I just can’t give it a 4/5, as that is what I am giving RockFish. I expect more of a restaurant like the Angel...the food has to be consistently the best and it has to be complemented with the best service and ambience. The Angel is not quite there today.

Top-quality food in a pleasant setting, using the best of local ingredients. We ordered from the a la carte menu, three-course is great value with a good selection for each course. The wine menu is extensive and covers a wide range of tastes and prices. Our server was Jordan, also the front of house manager, his passion for his job shone through. Despite the ‘COVID secure’ measures in place, this restaurant has lost none of its ambience or standards.
