The Dolphin Restaurant in South Hams

Disappointing really because we walked 7 miles to enjoy a lunchtime here. Sadly they were closed. It was a Wednesday lunchtime in high season mid June. There are no opening times displayed on their website or even on their premises when we arrived. Both we and other acquaintances tried phoning in advance but phone not answered. Maybe it just does evenings and weekends, but real shame that we couldn't find out in person, on their website, or premises or phone call. In the end we walked onto the next pub in Ringmore who were open lunchtime and had a nice time there. Would like to try the dolphin if we could find out somehow if and when they are open.

I visited this delightful Inn with a friend on Thursday evening. It is down a narrow country lane which was no problem. it had been recommended to us and we were not disappointed. We were made very welcome and both ordered the pork which was excellent and locally sourced I'm sure. All freshly cooked to order. Well worth a visit and a change from the usual fare you get in many pubs.

Lovely old pub, which has thankfully escaped the corporate makeovers so prevalent nowadays. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived for a mid-week overnight stay. The bar was busy, even at just after 5pm, the bartender was friendly and efficient, quickly sorting out our room key, taking us to our room, and them welcoming us when we returned a few minutes later for early evening drinks.Sean/Shaun, the chef and owner, is cheerful, enthusiastic about the pub and his role within it. We visited this pub some 30 years ago, and it's so heartening to see it thriving in very challenging times.Our room will soon be getting a makeover, but in the meantime, the bed was really comfortable, everything was clean and well prepared, and we had a great night's sleep. The food is tasty and plentiful, with at least 9 dishes on the menu.Breakfast was delicious...full English was substantial and perfectly cooked.Smashing place, great beer, good wine and lovely people.

Lovely country pub with great atmosphere. Had the best battered cod I’ve ever had, you must book a table Fridays as it is packed with locals. We had to leave early in the morning so we were made breakfast rolls to go. Cannot recommend highly enough. See you next year!!

Loved our stay at The Dolphin Inn. Rooms were comfortable, cozy and clean and staff were helpful and friendly. Our meal in the restaurant was delicious, too. Would love to stay again when I’m back in the area.

Small but perfect pub full of charm. Luckily managed to get a table, (thanks to some friendly locals!) And even better, ordered food, which was delicious.Great evening. 👍

Small, friendly pub, great landlord. Open fire. Accommodation across the way. Large car park. Plentiful character and charm. Dog friendly.

The atmosphere in this pub was fantastic. The bar staff were fabulous and the Chef, well the food was cooked perfectly - all fresh - local produce and soooooo tasty ! Absolutely wonderful place for food, menus changes often and we would highly recommend this pub for food or a drink Thank you!

We stopped over for a couple of nights this week and had an enjoyable stay. Excellent hosts who are clearly working really hard to get the pub up and running again having only been there for 12 weeks.They were both very friendly and clearly work well as a team. They serve good old honest pub grub and i have to say that the portion of scampi i had was the largest i have ever had.A good breakfast followed each morning and the fact that the pub and accommodation was dog friendly was a real draw.We will definitely drop in again and wish you all the best with your plans for the future of what is after all a lovely pub in a wonderfully secluded location.
