Amazing Sunday roast. Went today without reservation (we were lucky we were early and they could squeeze us in, as it got very busy shortly after) just strolling around Totnes and needed somewhere to eat. The whole meal was delightful, so much veg and variety, my turkey was perfectly cooked, and they also accommodated my toddlers several food allergies confidently and easily. All the roasts seemed to come with a yorkshire pud (even the steak pie), which shows they know what is important when it comes to a roast! Little one ate his weight in roast potatoes, so he was happy. Very warm welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back with family (with a reservation next time)

We were visiting late yesterday afternoon, many cafés were closed or closing and we wanted something to eat. We have been Totnes many times but never been into this pub. What a wonderful surprise, nicely decorated for Christmas (real lit candles in the windows), nice atmosphere too. We ordered a Turkey roast for me and a burger for my partner. The food was AMAZING! One of the best roasts I have EVER tasted and like home made. The main vegetables came in a separate dish with a small jug of extra gravy. Potatoes were crispy and Yorkshire pudding so light!!! Thank you. We will be back!!

Friendly, efficient staff. Felt very clean & safe. The food was of a really good quality & home-made.The beef in my burger came from a local butcher & so, I expect did the other meat. For any dog owners, thought I'd confirm that they allow well behaved dogs inside.

Love this place. Great staff and great food.Sunday roast - fabulous thick sliced roast beef with lovely fresh veg, cauliflower cheese to die for, and crispy roast spuds. On a weekday the Black Rock steaks are brilliant, top quality meat with proper chips, onion rings and salad. So glad this is my local.

I was visiting Totnes from London with my best friend and we had a lovely dinner here! The portions were huge and great value for money. The ambiance of the place was really nice, with interesting art to look at on the walls and lovely lighting. They also had really good non alcoholic drink options. The bar tender was polite, informative, helpful, and warm. A great experience overall!

Unfamiliar with Totnes and not knowing where to go to eat I popped in here. The menu on the wall outside looked like a decent pub grub menu, more appealing to me than all the vegan and veggie options up the top end of town. Food was excellent, amazing for the price. The chap behind the bar was great too. Big thumbs up 👍👍

So we visited Totnes on the Sunday of a bank holiday where many eateries were closed. This place seemed nice with its outdoor “pop-up” terrace to enjoy the last of this summer’s alfresco dining!I went in the pub to order which is very nicely done out, a lot smaller than it looks from outside but a nice cosy atmosphere. We ordered two burgers and a ham sandwich for my 2yr old (nothing else on the menu for him really, it would be nice to see a children’s section but maybe they don’t want kids there really, hey-ho..) with a few glasses of coke and a fruit shoot came to just under £50. Somewhat steep if I’m honest. The guy behind the bar who served me was very good, polite, friendly etc.The food came out via the waitress who asked us if we wanted any sauces etc, promptly brought them before rushing off. Fair enough she was busy so I’ll let her off, admittedly we did have burgers, but, some cutlery for the salad and chips would of been good!!!The beef in the burgers was clearly high quality, very tasty too.The ham sandwich was good quality too.Overall a good experience but a bit pricey really so 4/5 from me.

Partner and I made an impromptu stop to find somewhere for lunch in Totnes, on our way home from Cornwall. Glad we chose this pub for a quick bite to eat and a pint.Fantastic burger, good quality meat and cooked perfectly.Simple, tasty roast beef dinner. Both meals thoroughly enjoyed!Good choice of drinks. The standout aspect was that, whilst pubs everywhere are struggling with staffing levels since covid hit, this has also caused pubs everywhere to struggle with their service standards too. The whole front of house operation here appeared to be ONE young man working alone, in a venue busy enough to have to turn diners away because of a full tables! He was polite, courteous and helpful, all whilst working harder and more efficiently than I've seen entire teams recently in other venues. He probably deserves a pay rise, as if it's not his own business then he's definitely saving it for someone else!Look forward to definitely visiting again. Great job!
