The Pig & Whistle in South Hams

I would not consider us regular diners at the Pig and Whistle, but if we do go out for a meal it is to the Pig and Whistle.As always the food was delicious, we had the Sunday Roast.What a great shame it was let down by the service. The assistant manager was trying so hard to be welcoming, repeating the same greeting word for word, to everyone. Unfortunately he let his standards slip once we had had our main course. He eventually asked if we wanted desert, to which we replied yes; and he said once he had finished laying up the table next to us he would bring us the menu. I think he forgot because it took a while before we got the menu. When he came back to take our order my husband gave him the order and I asked for two cappuccino’s, which he repeated back to me.Our deserts were brought fairly promptly, but the cappuccino’s never arrived.After my husband spoke to the lovely manageress, she told us they were not written down.The most annoying thing was that when the coffee’s arrived, the assistant manager said “ sorry I didn’t hear you ask for the coffee”, which to my mind implied that I was lying.I sincerely hope that Phil and Donna see this long winded review as we have never had an issue in all the times we dined there before as all their staff have always been excellent!

We have had a lovely afternoon meal here following our Rum making experience. Lovely staff, very accommodating, wonderful food. Highly recommended.

First time here,Deffinatly come back,Had Belly pork, cheesy mash, Veg and gravy all round loverly well presented meal, fresh clean great taste, great value too.Staff really nice cheerfull,Facility's (loos) spotless fresh clean. Loverly pub worth a visit I'll Deff recommend to friends

Me and my wife had our first Christmas meal together out and I must just say that the Pig and Whistle gave us the best dinner and service ever would recommend anybody looking their meal at the Pig and Whistle highly recommended would not hesitate on going again once again thank you very much to the Pig and Whistle to the staff who were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble Merry Christmas one and all ❤❤

Went here tonight for our 3rd wedding anniversary meal... the food was absolutely stunning I had the whistler chicken which was cooked to perfection and tastes absolutely divine 😋 my wife had the slow cooked pork belly which again was cooked to perfection and just melted in the mouth, this was followed a sticky toffee pudding and bailey cheesecake which again was amazing and did not disappoint I would highly recommend this restaurant.The staff were friendly, professional and inviting and made you feel at ease the service was quick and to a high standard...The restaurant itself was stunning and felt very homely and the decor was fitting, we will return when we are back in the area 100%, thank you very much

Just wow. Best meal I have ever ever had. First time here and honestly I couldn't fault a thing. A lovely welcome from the staff and cosy warm interior. Menu was varied, only issue was what to choose! Our waitress was attentive without being too much. I had the short rib beef. I've never had such a tasty filling meal anywhere. My partner had the lamb. Again, couldn't fault it. Desserts were sublime. Prices were good, not a budget restaurant but then it's not budget food. Definitely great value for money. This will now be our go to for a lovely evening out.

Lovely staff, best food we have eaten in years, couldn't fault a thing. We had beef stroganoff, lamb rump, scallops and pork belly. Just wish we were local and not on holiday. Highly recommend.

We love The Pig & Whistle. Normally go on our own but visiting family loved it too. Fabulous freshly cooked food and very friendly staff. Your only problem will be will you have enough room for a starter, main course and a dessert. Would recommend a pre dinner cocktail too. Will be returning soon.

The food was great, I couldn't fault it and would highly recommend the Pig and Whistle. The service was great when we first arrived but got slower as the pub got busier but this was because there was only 3 members of staff for the whole restaurant taking orders and delivering the food from the kitchen to your table and one dedicated person behind the bar making your drinks so just be patient with them. I think that their still operating a table service. Overall I think the staff there did an awesome job and were incredibly polite and professional. Thanks again for quality pub food in a warm and inviting environment.
