The Plaice Restaurant in South Hams

Being a Londoner I have a phd in getting ripped off but this plaice is another level. Double cod and chips plus peas £29 which provided 2 kids portions. Nothing short of stealing. Locals should be embarrassed. Avoid

They have an excellent understanding of Coeliac disease and dairy allergies - one of the few places we trust for our daughter who unfortunately suffers both. We visit several times on our annual trip to Salcombe!

One portion of chips for £2.00 there were 19 cooked frozen chips exactly, captive audience in Salcombe, we are here for a week and won't be going there again

Just had fish and chips tonight to share, large chips, grilled haddock and mushy peas over £17 which seems steep and then opened the box and found there using frozen chips!!Haddock was good but still £12 and the mushy peas were watery and tasteless.Really disappointed I hate leaving a negative review but frozen chips from a fish chip shop was unexpected and disappointing.

It's almost pointless writing this review - this is the only fish and chip shop in Salcombe - and they know it.That (and the fact that they know most Salcombe visitors are not short of money) explains why the prices are such a rip-off, roughly 50% more than other chip shops. What is inexcusable however, is that the chips are the worst I've ever had, try eating some strips of cardboard instead, that would be better! I know the prices won't be coming down, but unless the chips improve dramatically, don't bother!

Do not go here !! For a family of four we paid £42 !!! Chips tasted like oven chips, fish was ok. Ordered a chicken pie and got a beef pie. We waited 10 minutes for this so thought it might be fresh but no it wasn't.

Very expensive and staggeringly poor value overall. Fish and chips for 4 was nearly £55. The fish portions although well cooked were tiny; smaller than the child’s portions at my local chip shop. The chips also a small portion were dry and tasted stale.

Ordered 2 pieces of Haddock and one large chips today £27.80!!! Questioned it as was shocked and then said thank you but no thank you .

Over £35 for 3 child's fish and chips, a single fish and chips plus 2 peas. Singularly the most overpriced chip shop I have ever been to. This wouldn't be so bad if the chips were not frozen ones and the fish had been cooked properly. The fish was underdone and the portions were not huge. They are the only chippy that does takeaway in Salcombe so they must feel they can serve rubbish and charge what they want. Their loss, we wont ever buy from there again. For the price charged we could have sat in any one of the local pubs and had a decent meal. I would suggest anyone visiting Salcombe does the same.

Tasty pizza, good value and quick turn around. We ended up with a freebie as they weren't happy with the first attempt at the veggie deluxe (base was too soggy, apparently. We thought it was fine). We will return no doubt.
