The Sloping Deck in South Hams

Hoping this was an off day; our soup was awful. It was suppose to be a tomato and basil soup, but more like coloured water with little lumps and no taste. The two stars are for the staff and the tasty roll.

Lovely selection of food. Helpful staff and managed very well under covid restrictions.

Certainly a place with character given the age of the building, but for those who wish to use the restaurant it certainly could be made more attractive with a refurbishement in keeping with its history. Couldn't fault the coffee and cake and the friendly staff though.

Really friendly staff and excellent sea bass. Thoroughly recommend this unique venue in Dartmouth. It's not called the Sloping Deck for nothing - I wanted to share a video of a glass sliding across the table by itself but couldn't upload it but take my word for it!

Don't bother.... we thought we'd pop in for tea and something sweet. We ordered 'Brandy' laced mince pie and tea, the mince pie was served in it's foil tray, cold, no cream and no fork. The pastry was so dry you couldn't swallow without a mouthful of tea, it didn't have much filling and I couldn't detect Brandy. £3.30 for this disappointing mince pie (70p to takeaway!) Quite honestly, I will not return again... ever... I suspect the pastry was made with lard and water rather than butter and the only sweetness came from a dusting of icing sugar. Within an hour I was feeling sick and had acid reflux, not a good sign for somebody who doesn't eat meat or meat products. Best avoided for food!

Very unpleasant experience. Unfortunately for me I chose this takeaway /restaurant for coffees to sit outside as a PAYING CUSTOMER. I've highlighted that as the throughly miserable waitress I spoke to hissed at me that the toilets were for PAYING customers only!! Even though I explained I would be paying and I was sitting at a table with my husband and 2 dogs but I desperately needed to use the restroom a lovely waitress had taken our order so I walked back into the cafe to be met by the same woman who said the toilets are for paying sat down customers only and they are being cleaned. I said well could you not have told me before we ordered as I wouldn't have bothered and gone somewhere else as I explained I needed to use them? I didn't know she said and they are for paying customers only. I said cancel my order then I will find somewhere else. Very rude unprofessional and in this day and age when businesses are struggling it only takes the downfall of your staff to bring a business down. Plenty of lovely places in Dartmouth with professional smiley staff. My advice would be to go to one of these. Judging by several other reviews this lady has a problem with common courtesy.

Looking for a place to eat on a first visit to Dartmouth, stumbled upon this. The clue to how nice the food was lay in the fact of how busy and bustling it was. With covid, it's takeaway or an outside table service, bit tight for space but the service more than made up for it.The moment we hovered near a table, a friendly member of staff was there to welcome us to sit down, once they'd wiped everything.There was a straightforward menu to accommodate most tastes, including a veggie option for myself of a delicious bean, pea, and spinach burger. Indeed all of us really loved the our food - fish and chips, battered tiger prawns. Despite how busy they were, staff were so attentive and prompt (they must be worn out by closing). The array of cakes and savouries for takeaway were amazing. I'm so glad we found this place. Will seek it out again next time we are in Dartmouth.

Really disappointing and overpriced breakfast - £6.75 for a sausage sandwich comprising two of the poorest quality ‘bangers’ in untoasted bread. I could have stomached the high price if the product was high quality, but this was very poor. The ‘fresh coffee’ which was instant, served with UHT milk instead of fresh milk. Avoid this place at breakfast time (can’t speak for the rest of the day).No complaints about the service.

Walking around in Dartmouth, with limited amount of places that have outside sitting, Sloping Deck was a pleasant place to eat something on a huff :-). The battered 🐟 and 🍤 were freshly cooked and tasty and the serving was fast and professional.

This is a lively little cake shop/cafe/ restaurant.We were visiting Dartmouth for the day and popped in for a Devon cream tea, but decided to have coffee with it instead.Downstairs is the shop part, selling endless cakes etc.The upstairs, is up very steep, narrow, leaning staircase, which leads into two different sections of the restaurant with chairs and tables on both sides.It is very compact as the whole building is leaning, but it doesn't feel cramped when you are seated at your table.Service was good and we could have shared a devon tea and it would have been plenty, as the scones were quite large and filling, and there was plenty of coffee in one pot for both of us.Overall a very nice place for a snack or lunch.
