The Start Bay Inn in South Hams

We had a lovely meal here. My husband had large cod and chips and I had medium cod and chips. Both pieces of cod were huge. We struggled to get through it all. The fish was well cooked and the batter was nice and crispy. Definitely worth the price. Also the puddings were amazing, lemon meringue pie and Bailey's cheesecake. Dogs allowed inside the top bar area but there's also seating outside too. Lovely, friendly staff, happy and efficient. Definitely recommend. Apparently the only place open all day and serves food all day too.

The fish and chips are superb! Always freshly cooked and lovely cuts of cod. Plenty of seating inside but you can order from the takeaway hatch and grab a table to take in the sea air and views. If you're in the area I can't recommend them highly enough.

A comprehensive food and drinks menu. We only had a light snack but it was very tasty and well presented. The staff were very polite and engaged well with customers. A specific area for people with with pets. Overall an excellent and welcoming venue on a windy day.

The quality of the food here is awesome! I had a crab salad which was so generous and the salads were truly exceptional. My family enjoyed the fish and chips as much, and the staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. If you're near, just go!!!

When the reputation is bang on.... fabulous fish and chips/scampi and chips, great drinks, a great atmosphere and really nice staff. Oh and that location...

"We are going to need a bigger plate"Called in on spec having been recommended for its fish and chips. We were not disappointed, a huge plateful, fresh and beautifully cooked. The batter on the cod was thin and crisp. It's so rare to get quantity and quality in such large helping and Tartare sauce a'plenty.Got to call again!!

We stayed in Torcross and we had takeaway, eat in and also ice creams (not at the same time) and each time the food was really tasty and staff so friendly. Would recommend the fish, chips and mushy peas as well as the scampi and also the mixed seafood salad. Miss out even just getting an ice cream at your peril 🙂
