Very impressed with this stop off as never been here before The cafe was a nice surprise with its wide variety of food and snacks and the sculptures displayed inside. A really welcoming place with friendly and helpful staff. Can reccomend and will certainly visit again x

Nice place, good breakfast menu, excellent selection of cakes, pasties and sandwiches. The ladies serving were very welcoming and pleasant.Sausage sandwiches were good, and nice and hot, girl cooking the food was equally as hot 🔥Busy place, loads of seating inside and outside.

We stop here every time we go to Devon or Cornwall. It has certainly changed since the Portacabin days however the service is still great and the food lovely. Very friendly staff. Only let down by the toilets at the site. Nothing to do with Cartgate lodge. Believe these are managed by local council.

Excellent place to stop on a long journey.Ample free parking and space to stretch your legs, and those of any four legged friends 🙂Cafe is very good, whether it's a meal or just a coffee. It has separate toilet facilities if it's just a comfort break you need. There's also benches if you have brought a picnic with you.I stop here every time I holiday to Exmoor.

After a long day driving a HGV down from Scotland, I walked in at 4:30, noticed someone eating what looked like Ham egg and chips…. read the menu board one person was being served. I stepped up to the counter at 4:35 and asked To order Ham egg and chips please. To be told ‘Sorry .. we shut at 5:00…….. I said it’s only 4:35? The man came out from the kitchen to say ‘ Everything is turned off… it’ll take quarter of an hour to warm back up! I don’t know who owns this place, but they need to have a word with their staff! 🤬🤬👎👎👎👎

We were met by a really welcoming team at this very convenient café just off the A303.It is well positioned for a break on the way to Cornwall from the south east of England.Their menu included some interesting variations of home cooking and honest café food. The staff could not do enough for the customers.

Never thought of stopping to eat at the Cartgate Service's before. I've often stopped for a toilet stop going from Cornwall up to Hampshire.Had to travel up for Christmas and made the journey on Christmas Eve early morning from Cornwall. Left early expecting heavier traffic, but roads were dead. Stopped to kill some time at the services. Both ordered the English Breakfast and tea's.Wasn't expecting it to be so nice in the restaurant. Very clean, with friendly staff. The breakfasts were brilliant value for money. Wasn't expecting butchers / locally sourced tasting sausages, bacon. Nice fried bread and eggs. Not at all greasy.I will definitely go there again. Pleasantly surprised how good it was.

Wonderful friendly staff, delicious freshly made food, very Covid aware & cleanliness. Have been visiting for years on our travels from N Devon to Surrey and cannot thank them enough when my husband left his coat there in November and they saved it for us. That's Service with a smile!! Merry Christmas Team Cartgate!! 🤶

Always stop here on our journeys from Essex to our home in Cornwall,or from Cornwall to family in Essex . Usually café is shut now at the times we travel, but loos are kept clean and tidy and open most of the time. Also useful to know disabled loo is always available with a radar key access. Credit to the chap who generally cleans them and anyone else who covers for him.
