Really surprised by this pub after having heard good things. Food was of poor quality and very small portions. Fish pie could not have been more bland and was served with a few strips of badly overcooked cabbage. Chicken and ham pie was similarly poor and served with watery bisto gravy and very lumpy mash. Waiting staff were clearly poorly trained and unfriendly. Only avoided 1 Star because the decor and ice cream was nice (although this is difficult to get wrong!) Avoid.

Went for Sunday lunch with friends. Lovely warm pub, staff brilliant. Unfortunately the veg spoilt our meal. All the veg was to hard, we all agreed it needed to be cook a little more.

Very disappointed by our meal this evening. With The Helyar Arms' local reputation we were looking forward to a good quality meal but the food was a huge let down - mid-week home cooking standard at best. My chicken and ham pie was certainly shop bought, served with lumpy mash, a couple of plain bots of under-steamed veg and bisto gravy (there's no mistaking the flavour of instant gravy!). My husband's fish pie was bland and like 'eating baby food' served with a less than appetising mound of cabbage and a burnt bowl... even our children's scampi and chips was plain oven food we would cook at home...All round poor, made worse by the dull serving staff who couldn't even muster a smile...We won't be going again I'm sorry to say.

We had an exceptional meal here on a quiet Tuesday lunchtime. I mean really, really good. Two pheasant breasts stuffed with blackberries, wrapped in bacon on a bed of bubble and squeak and fried red cabbage. I was bowled over. The waiter was very good too. Thank you.

We went for a walk and ended up at the Helyar Arms. There was a huge tent outside with plenty of benches to relax and stay safe. Lager was nice.

Excellent meal and staff absolutely brilliant. Last minute booking when meeting family as original destination was closed when we got there. So pleased it was!! We weren't rushed at all which was great as we hadn't seen each other for 3years! Great atmosphere. Food lovely and service superb. Spotlessly clean. We live in Weymouth about 30mins drive away and we will definitely visit again.

Our first time visiting the Helyar Arms and what a great experience, the staff were very friendly and polite, the surroundings inside the pub very clean with a contemporary feel about it but warm in character an charm. The landlord is front of house and really great to chat to and his wife is in the kitchen, our experience from the food was most excellent. It's a great honest country pub that just dose great home cooked food nothing to pretentious🤩 it's got a great beer garden to ample parking for everyone. We shall return to sample more delicious food. Thanks to everyone at the Helyar Arms that made our afternoon memorable. Regards Pete & Bridget Nelson

A very enjoyable stay at this clean, bright and attractive pub in a delightful location. The welcoming and highly professional staff contributed to make our stay (with two little dogs in tow) a truly relaxing experience and I would definately recommend.

We stayed here for two nights a week ago and really enjoyed our stay. Firstly the staff were all friendly and welcoming, secondly the pub has a lovely restaurant area and bar area with comfy sofas to relax. The food was brilliant quality and well priced - I’ve certainly not had such a great steak for a very long time and our young children polished off their food as well. We are here both nights it was that good! Our room was lovely as well, clean, well laid out with everything you need. We hope to stay again in the future.

Went there for a long over due family meal. The food was lovely, couldn't fault any of it. Meals came out quickly. Staff are brilliant, very helpful, polite, nothing was a problem. Best service ever. The pub itself is done out really nicely, very pleasant. Couldn't fault our visit. Highly recommend!
