Bear of Rodborough Restaurant in Stroud

Hotel was good with a nice room. But the restaurant food was poor and was not happy about a service charge on top £9.00 but it was optional so we did not pay for it. The people in reception were very nice and helpful. Overall had 2 nights very nice

Brilliant beer and pimms in the lovely garden setting. Really lovely serving staff, even gave my other half his own little shortbread biscuit after we argued about mine! Bit pricey but a leisurely time and worth it, especially with such attentive staff, makes such a difference :-)

We enjoyed our stay so much that we plan to visit again! Everything was perfect: the room with a lovely view, good quality food and good atmosphere! Lovely positioned hotel with a lovely garden!

Me and my sister went for some food left waiting for 45 minutes for that food ( it was busy to be fair to the staff ) at that point I went to ask how long it would be for the food only to find the person who took are order never sent it to the kitchen got told they could get to us in 10 minutes but by then just wanted to go as we were a time frame we did have a hour free but couldn’t wait a extra 20 minutes for food we ordered 45 minutes ago.They still made us paid 7.40 for the 2x cokeWe only had two cokes to go with the food that we didn’t get !The person who took my order looked like he was a manager if so your doing a bad jobThe young lady I saw after you didn’t put my order in was nothing but respect full and apologetic even tho it wasn’t her faultDon’t no that young lady name wish I asked now but your doing a great job I was on table 67

Really nice pub with nice food.The outdoor is lovely with great views.Inside there are few different small rooms, making it cosy, even though it's a big place.Really recommended

We had our wedding and reception here two years ago and it couldn't have been better. They did literally everything for us and looked after our guests extremely well, they took care of all the little details. The food was incredible, and all our friends with dietary requirements were given plenty of excellent food. Many of our friends have said since it was the best wedding food they'd had and I'd agree. The rooms were lovely, the breakfasts just as good. Absolutely first class, they gave us the most wonderful memories to look back on, thank you so much!

Lovely one night stay at the Bear, I booked a deluxe double room and it was really nice, good size and very clean. The bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was top spec with a massive walk in shower. Although situated over a busy pub there was NO noise at all in room and I slept well.I ate in the restaurant which was really nice food and I enjoyed a few whiskies in the bar, all staff were super welcoming and helpful.I also recommend the Full English in the morning, all the ingredients are top notch and the black pudding was one of the best I've had to date.All in all, I'd definitely stay here again.

Lovely old building with helpful and friendly staff.We had a very comfortable room in the annexe as we had our dog with us. Thoughtful additions e.g. dog basket, blankets and bowls provided and poo bins available in the grounds. Dog could also have joined us for doggy breakfast in a designated area.Human breakfast very good! Fresh fruit, fresh and not soggy croissants/pastries as well as cooked options. Good selection on offer. We also had a snack in the garden which was a beautifully fresh sandwich with lovely chips. Dinner, though cooked well and tasty, was disappointingly small in portion size for the price.Overall, felt welcome and treated well, with interested and helpful staff. Would stay again if in the area as great walking on Rodborough Common with the dog.

Lovely vegetarian Sunday lunch.All food and wine accurately marked.We ate in the Library which was a very pleasant place to be. All of the staff who looked after us were attentive and polite.I'd definitely like to come to The Bear again!

Glorified Premier Inn.Taking nothing away from the staff who dealt with situations as they could. But unfortunately (considering the price paid for a room) some fairly alarming failings were found. Aside from the bar area being sterile, other key amenities like working heating in our room would typically be expected at £170 a night, the heating finally kicked in at about 5am the next morning where it sounded like a small submarine was about to begin a 6 month tour of the Mariana Trench. There is a real sense that ownership and management are really trying to cut corners.Breakfast was pretty uninspiring, and despite choosing to sit at an empty table of our choosing, we were asked to move to sit elsewhere. Breakfast felt rushed and simple things like eggs on toast were burnt
