I can't remember the last time I gave somewhere a poor review. We decided to try Cross Keys for a Sunday lunch as we were in the area and I wish I hadn't.I hope for their sake it was just an isolated incident, however everything was wrong. We weren't informed of the extremely long wait time for food even though my partner and I arrived with 3 small children and had booked well in advance. We took a gamble on the Sunday Roast and a gamble it was.The food arrived and was very loosely as described with some items missing off the plate, or in that small a quantity they weren't even worth mentioning on the menu. The table next us received the wrong meat on one of their meals and some very poorly executed lunches also. The waiting staff, although very polite were inexperienced and clearly hadn't received the proper front of house training. They did however assist the kitchen in spreading out the ordering for courses, although I feel this was out of their control as the kitchen staff were overwhelmed with what seemed to be a less than average amount of covers.Although I didn't want to waste anymore money on desserts the rest of the family wanted something sweet. So we decided to stay and have pudding. Unfortunately we had to settle for items that weren't our first choices, as most of the items listed weren't available. So a simple Sunday Lunch took 2 and a half hours and I would 75% of that time was us trying to get served or wait for the table to be cleared.A very poor experience from start to finish really... a real shame.

Excellent food and service, Easter Sunday chocolate for the kids and egg hunt. Dog friendly and Tesco vouchers.

Lunch for five, four roasts and a pie, food was great, requests for extra gravy were not a problem. Didn’t partake in a dessert but I’d imagine it would of been good. The turkey was voted as the best meat.

Hadn't been for a while to cross keys and I've always had a good enjoyable meal here. Unfortunately wasn't the case on this occasion. I had fish and chips.. came out like this. A dish empty that was meant for my peas, and about 7 chips!! Any chef that is willing to serve this to a customer needs to seriously think about there job choice! They sent back my food with chips and peas and the rest of my meal was cold! My friend had the mixed grill to which the chicken wasn't even on her plate. Sad to say I don't feel I'd now return for food again.

We went to the Cross Keys for Sunday lunch yesterday and have been here on many occasions for food and have in the main, never been disappointed!Well, yesterdays lunch was absolutely FANTASTIC and possibly the best Sunday lunch I’d ever had there. I had the trio and my wife the beef. Everything was cooked to perfection and was all hot. The service was also brilliant, the team members led by Sarah, all smiling and in my opinion genuinely enjoying their job. Well done team Cross Keys 👍🏾

First time eating here and the pork belly Sunday lunch was very good. Staff Lila and Sarah looked after our group very well and Bill checked in on us often as well. Activities and menu for kids, crayons etc was good, everyone was very happy

Never normally do bad reviews as there is plenty of negative in the world, but if I can help you avoid this place, I'd be doing some good for this world. The service was atrocious. The food was diabolical. The atmosphere was depressing. We all had a 3 Course Meal, we hadn't even finished our starters and all our main meals came out and they placed them on the table and walked off.... The meals were lukewarm, we then didn't even see any staff members for around 10 minutes so we just started to eat our meals as it would be just a waste and it's the not the waiters fault that we have our meals early, this would be down to the kitchen and management not having an idea about what a 'starter and a main meal is', I've worked in a kitchen for several years and I know how it works. Then furthermore my friend had a mixed grill and he was eating the gammon and as I found out afterwards from him it was dryer than the Sahara Desert he says, he started choking and he started going purple, and I had to perform the Heineken manoeuvre on him as he was choking for about 15-20 seconds and you guessed it.... Not one single staff member came over to check to see if he was alright or offer him a glass of water, they all just blanked us. After all that we had our dessert and as we were handed our dessert they asked if we'd like to pay.... We hadn't even picked up our spoons yet.All that just left a bad taste in my mouth and I will never ever go there again for anything... not even to use the loo's.

I had great expections after reading the reviews, sadly the Cross Keys did not live up to them, the squid starter was chewy and clearly over cooked. I ordered the trio of meats, for a sunday roast. The beef was tough and inedible, the pork was extremely thinly sliced and dry, the crackling was miniscule and soggy, The yorkshire pudding was stodgy and very unappealing. The veggies were just a bit to al dente, almost undercooked. The roast potatoes were tasteless and quite strange tasting. The stuffing was bland. And the gravy was extremely salty. But credit is due when I feed this back to the manager, it was taken on and used as an opportunity to improve. The cost of the uneaten meals were removed from the bill. I will visit again to see if this was a one off bad experience. Photo 4 shows the pork crackling
