Restaurant is first class. Service and food excellent fully worthy of 5 stars and more!!

I have spent the last two days trying to book a room as they don't book over the phone and online staff only work part time (as I have been told). The emails I received where a bit confusing so I called to try and get a better understanding what was meant, only to be met by the most obnoxious male receptionist (who later hung the phone up on me). He was very patronising whilst explain part of the email and continued to say 'I can only guess what they mean on the email' even though I had read the email to him numerous times. As it turns out they were offering a choice of two rooms but a misplaced comma made it seem as if there were three rooms on offer, so all of his poor patronising attitude was because of a simple typo however if this is the type of service you received over the phone this is not somewhere I would be willing to stay.

Several attempts made to make a booking via Buyagift - spectacular fail!Reservations manager ‘Jon’ is beyond rude and totally unhelpful. He was clearly absent from school on the day manners and customer service was taught! No response to repeated emails requesting complaints policy.Be warned - if initial booking experience is anything to go by, this hotel is DIRE!!

What a fantastic, small country hotel. Stayed for 2 nights to explore the area. Great service, friendly staff, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Worst night sleep bed very uncomfortable and creeked every time you moved, room was cold at night as the heating was switched off came back on about 7am best part of the stay was the food although we had a extra charge when we checked out as we had to pay for full English which was not explained on bookingWouldn't stay again

The place and rooms beautiful but very expensive for not a lot breakfast isn’t included even if you pay for their best rooms then was greeted in the morning with a very rude man so lovely rooms but won’t go back

You would be lucky to get a room here. Lovely country hotel with woodburning stove and open fires and exceptional staff. Great location to explore Dorset, East Devon and Exmoor.

This is an amazing hotel and restaurant! Beautiful rooms, lovely outside areas, great service. We had an excellent meal with a bottle of Dart Valley Reserve (well done for promoting local wines) for a very reasonable price. We will be back!

Lovely place. Beautiful garden and in a picturesque village. Family meal for 8 at a round table in a separate area for ourselves. Good service. Loved my starter and dessert, not quite so keen on the roast beef but others had it and were happy. The two members of our family who stayed there had a lovely room.
