Four of us celebrating a birthday. The restaurant in this pub/hotel is a cut above the rest and we have had wonderful meals on special occasions before. The service is great and the menu is interesting. The other 3 people in the party clearly had wonderful food again this time and great wine, but I had the steak and it was rather disappointing. It was an 8oz ribeye - and 2oz of it was inedible due to hard fat and gristle. It was also incredibly salty - I think it had a salt and pepper crust. The chips were overdone and also salted - I was actually quite worried about the amount of salt I seemed to be consuming. The peppercorn sauce was thin and watery with little taste and it was accompanied by half a roast onion which was described as caramelised onion. I would have expected tasty slices. It's very unusual to have a disappointing meal here, and it won't put me off going again, but for me this visit was under par

We’ve visited the Rock in numerous times over the last decade.Visited again for valentines day as it’s got a great atmosphere, staff are friendly and the food is always perfect. It’s an old English Pub with plenty of charm, log fires and heaps of character. So if you’re looking for something authentic, opt to sit in the bar by the fire, if you prefer slightly more modern, lean towards the restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

Fantastic food, drinks, and service. Arrived early after a long day walking, got seated next to the fire place to warm up. Had an amazing steak and duck breast, lovely amuse bouche with bread to get started.

Great experience - friendly staff, delicious food and comfortable beds. Not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for! Nice touch, all their rooms are namd after Grand National winners. Great place as a base for Dartmoor exploration.

We are great fans of The Rock and try to treat ourselves for a one night stay when on Dartmoor. It was lovely to be back. Only negative point was the two "senior" women talking about washing habits and female genitalia while we were having dinner. They seemed completely unaware of their surroundings.

Came here a few years ago with a large party and it wasn't exceptional, but expected that to be simply the size of the group. This time there were three of us and unfortunately the service was decidedly sub-par. Very little interaction and a really long wait for a single course at lunch. A shame really, as the food was excellent. We won't be returning.

If you want smart modern and trendy this is not for you. If you are looking for bags of character, comfortable, chipped at the edges in a small charming village right on the edge of stunning Dartmoor, then this is the place for you. The Rock Inn is warm and welcoming and oozes old fashioned charm. The staff are fantastic. The bar selection is superb and the food is exquisite. The menu is very tight, but boy oh boy prepare yourself for a culinary delight. Truly delicious. The bedrooms ooze old fashioned charm, chipped at the edges but very comfortable. We wish we could have stayed longer. An easy recommendation

The food was delicious and the setting is delightful. A charming old inn with nooks and crannies and interesting decor. The staff were all really friendly and looked after us well. A dog-friendly place too.Worth a trip down the lanes for lunch for sure!

Hadn't been to this pub probably in 30 years but the food (loved the tapas starters) and of course the Jail Ale was exceptional. The beer garden is just about accessible for a wheelchair but is very tranquil & pleasant. I'll be back! ... sooner than before.

This time last week we were enjoying a couple of drinks in the fantastic garden after a bracing walk over the Tors and looking forward to our second meal in the restaurant and our second night of a five night stay. This place is fabulous - the food is fantastic, the rooms are comfortable and clean (we had one of the rooms in the roof and surprisingly I did NOT bang my head once)! and the service is impeccable. With so many 'faceless' hotels it was thoroughly refreshing to find an establishment that was so personal - it was perfect. A massive thank you to Sue and the team, particularly Sharon who is brilliant. A little gem in the heart of Dartmoor that we will definitely be coming back to.
