The Best Pub!Love this place, classic old English pub. Staff are brilliant, they've recently appointed new chefs - had a couple of meals there and the food was fantastic. Can't wait to be back again having beers in the sun.

Quite frankly, the food at this place is dope, really welcoming staff. Stayed here in the motorhome last week via britstops and couldn't have asked for more. Can't recommend enough. Thanks

Looks a lovely place, pre booked a table for Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday, 2 of us and a 4 yr old. Turned up, it was busy, but we was seated and we ordered Sunday lunch, then 20mins later they come out and say no lunchs left, we can have fish and chips that's it, try tell that to a 4 yr old, not the best service tbh, probably is a nice place but got our money back, and The Hart Inn Hartford was great and very accomodating..

Great food, great drinks ( including local ales) , friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.

Amazing food and lovely friendly staff! The owner (I think) kindly let us park there while we went walking and gave us really helpful advice about nice walks in the local area (which is stunning). We came back later for food and really enjoyed the cosy atmosphere and excellent service from the staff. The Cajun Tofu veggie option was particularly delicious and creative! Nice to see a traditional pub/restaurant putting effort into making a decent veggie dish. Went back again a second time during our stay in Devon. :)

Enjoyed a fabulous Sunday roast at the Old Smithy today. I had lamb and my partner had beef. Good sized portions and the depth of flavour was really amazing. Would definitely eat here again, and again, and again. Five stars.

1. Booked a table a week in advance.2. A week later, turned up and went to the bar to confirm our reservation.3. Was the only one at the bar and got no acknowledgement whilst bar staff did a few chores. There was no “be with you in a minute”. So it felt unwelcoming.4. Finally got acknowledged, they had no evidence of the reservation, that’s the impression I got.5. Was asked if we were okay sharing a table with another couple who were yet to turn up. They were willing to put up a clear screen. Appreciate the protection, but we wanted privacy.6. I think it was the landlady who I spoke to and she allowed us to have the large table and accommodate the other guests at another table.7. Food came quick and extra drinks came quick from the bartender who’s first shift it was.8. Food was fine, didn’t stay for dessert due to the first feeling of unwelcoming.Maybe their off day, but the experience didn’t sit well with us, especially as it was a birthday meal.

What a lovely little find .me and my husband dropped on this little jem of a pub/ restaurant/ HotelOn a day out . The welcome was nice warm and friendly you always know a good pub when the staff are smiling. So I was won over straight away the menu was a little different but please go out of your comfort zone like we did and try something different we were both so surprised by the quality of the food and the portion size overall a lovely 5x meal
