Where is The Rams Head?

🏠 South St, Dolton, Winkleigh EX19 8QS

"The Rams Head Inn at Dolton has an established reputation as a great place for good food, wines & ales and quality accommodation. This 17th century inn recently underwent a tasteful programme of refurbishment by the previous owners and now, since April 2018, is under the ownership of Michelin accredited French chef Nicolas Boucher. In summer months there is a delightful garden area, offering a sheltered sun-trap to enjoy a glass of wine and a light meal. In winter months wood-burning stoves and tastefully furnished bar areas offer a cosy haven on a cold day. A separate dining room offers a more formal environment and also can accommodate private groups, including small wedding parties, by arrangement."

Unfortunately had little problem with hot water and shower, but overall the room was very clean and comfortable. Food was excellent.

We went into The Rams Head Inn on the 1st April 2022 to have lunch and were disappointed when the two bacon and brie baguettes had a rock hard crust and the bacon was so overcooked it was unrecognisable as bacon ! - we told the bar woman of this and that our comment was a constructive complaint, but no apology was offered by her, the chef or anyone. It was a shame as we had researched this pub and were looking forward to having an evening meal there during our holiday but thought if they can't create two tasty baguettes then what chance do two evening meals have.

Just had Sunday lunch, beef, chicken or pork belly, had the pork. Stunning. Good mixture of vegetables plus offered all the condiments and extra gravy. Loads to eat, a couple of pints, fill the wife up with G&T and walk home for a snooze. Marvellous!!

Thursday 30/09 LunchVisited today on the recommendation of a friend. What a delightful find, tucked away in the village of Dolton. This traditional pub dating back to the 17th century now owned by a French family who’s cuisine is outstanding. An exceptional pub with accommodations worth a visit if you’re in the area for exceptional food and friendly service.

Went for a Sunday roast after a wedding, the roast was delicious, good range of trimmings and the Yorkshire was lovely. They also decorated the table for the couple. There could have been a couple more visits to the table to order more drinks but otherwise a lovely place.
