Lydford Country House Restaurant in West Devon

Myself and my partner stayed locally and wanted to find a nice cosy place to eat on our first night away.Think we found a little gem in the Castle Inn, friendly staff and wonderful food.Highly recommended to all

Fast service for Sunday lunch, they know what their customers want and they do it well. The kitchen extension is a silver airstream-style caravan in the garden. We sat outside with our pints and watched them cracking out roast dinners to the groove as their little speaker which kept the flow going. My roast beef included five a day :) different vegetables- roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots plus red cabbage and purple sprouting broccoli and a Yorkshire pudding in gravy. You get it all on one plate. We stopped off after a long Devon walk in the beautiful surrounding moorland. I would return though it is busy, which is why we were in the garden. To eat inside on a Sunday you would have to book in advance.

We had a fantastic night away at The Castle Inn celebrating my husbands birthday.The room was beautifully decorated with a huge super comfy bed. Welcome tray with delicious locally made biscuits, tea and coffee, with fresh milk.We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed both.What really made it for us was how friendly and welcoming the staff and locals were. We'll definitely be back in the summer.

Lovely atmosphere, and staff. Modern facilities, brilliant tea and coffee facilities right down to delivery on milk to the bedroom door early morning. Hairdryer and straighteners for use during stay. Modern en-suite. Breakfast plentiful and delicious. Would recommend.

We had a lovely Sunday night going into valentines here and the staff were so friendly. The owners have done great things with this pub and the rooms. The standard is beautiful in the bedroom. Photos attached were for room 12. Highly recommended.

Lovely olde world pub. Had 4 cask ales I only had a pint but friendly staff. Has over 10 rooms to stay over handy if your doing the Dartmoor way.

This is a lovely pub full of character, staff are helpful and friendly, we have been going here for years Prices have gone up excessively recently taking advantage of the staycation crowd. Not a locals pub anymore which is a shame. It is more geared to tourists who are happy to pay over the odds. You can get great food in other local pubs for a fraction of the prices charged here.

I only had one night here but I loved it. The rooms, pub and dining area are full of character. The bathroom was really good with really nice toiletries. We were given fresh milk for our room and delivered more in the morning. The food and drink was excellent with good real ale on tap. Best of all, the hotel kindly posted a car key we had left in the room and we received it the day after we got home.

This is truly a find on Dartmoor. Brilliant pub with plenty of character, complete with roaring fire. Great beer. Food is fantastic, staff are really friendly and the rooms are a joy. They are truly beautiful, clean, modern and totally in keeping with the age of the property. Beds are really comfy.

Absolutely fantastic... 500 year old building, stone floors and walls and a proper old pub feeling which is sadly rare these days... And the food? Oh my god! I would of eaten it off the floor. incredible! My dad was a world class chef and the mother of my children is a chef, so I know good food when it's put in front of me... And the food here is exceptional..
