A really nice thatched pub with rooms in an exceptionally pretty hamlet. Superb service and excellent food. We had a lovely stay and were well positioned to explore the whole of Dorset.

We arrived at the Brace of Pheasants and were met with a warm and homely reception and shown to our room, Number 5, with a stunning four poster bed and extra wide bath! Well appointed and comfortable this was a real treat after even our short journey. We dined at the restaurant and enjoyed a locally sourced dinner including exciting dishes such as pigeon skewers and asparagus wrapped in Parma Ham. We both had the Pork Belly for main which was cooked to perfection. The wine menu is excellent and they have a good selection of beers. The owner of the venue has integrated some lovely Southern African touches to the menu and venue which we really enjoyed, including some home made Biltong which was delicious and highly recommended. We would certainly visit again despite only living an hour or so away.

Stopped in halfway through a walk for a beer and a bite to eat, though we nearly missed as there is currently no pub sign and we initially thought it was a couple of cottages! SO glad found our way in as it was lovely and we intend to go back for a "proper" meal. Some may find the taxidermy a little disturbing! See pic.

This place is in the middle of nowhere!! What a lovely setting and tranquil place to stay. Our host Matt and his staff ,makes you feel like a member of the family rather than a guest, the perfect host. If you need a well earned rest to recharge, this is a must.

Lovely local pub with proper hearty food and a brilliant drinks selection. Enjoyed a real open fire on several nights, very friendly management team and great to meet some of the locals too.

·

One of the best stays in England. Outstanding food, Softest bed ,I miss that bed, beautiful country side, friendly staff. Wish we’d stayed longer. We want to go back.

The new South African owners deserve to do really well. Lovely food and very welcoming ambience. Good beer from the cask.
