Lyme's Fish Bar in West Dorset

The fish and chips were cooked fresh, the peas weren't mushy peas but were nice enough. The fish cake was slightly peppery which didn't go down well with our 9 year old.

Lovely fish and chips. Little more expensive than others and a fairly long wait... Why are the basics not even ready on a busy lunchtime??? Saying that, always go here so that's saying something!

This was the only fish and chips shop my sister and I found whilst on a drizzling day in Lyme Regis. The chips were fantastic, just as I would expect from a proper fish and chip shop. Savloy sausage was also just as expected and got two pickled girkins for 75p (little steep but meh). The only downside was that from the outside there was still advertising for eat in, which is 95% of the reason we chose it. There were tables set up, ie with condiments eyc, it was not anywhere close to closing but we were pushed out into the rain to find a bus stop or some other form of shelter to 'enjoy' our food. Two other minor quibbles. I ordered cheesy chips and the cheese was not melted under a grill as I would have have done as a chef, it was mearly thrown on top of the chips and so none melted which is what I was hoping for. There was only my sister and I but we were served completely separately meaning my meal came and then she was asked what she wanted. As a chef of 5 years this is not how you get food out fast and efficiently. Anyway, those are somewhat minor points. I guess if there were as six of us it would have been a bit of a mess. Luckily there was a small courtyard across the street with tables and umbrellas so we took our chances and scoffed our grub under the shelter. As I said, my chips and Savloy were petfect. My sister just had chips and curry sauce which she said was delicious. Paying 75p for a very cup of sauce (tomato and mayo) I found a bit extortionate, how come salt and vinegar are free but a tablespoon of sauce is nearly a £1? Should have brought my own 😉. Anyways, staff were fairly polite. Not overly enthusiastic but not rude. Fokd was made fast and as mentioned no complaints. Only things that let it down was the advertising for eat in or take away, with no eat in available. And the overpriced mini sauces. Other than that I would definitely go back if it was a dry day and I took my own ketchup lol.

Been coming here for years. Sometimes good sometimes not so. But tonight the fish portion was very small and Dry. The batter was rock hard and greasy. Simply awful. But on the plus side the chips were good.

Tasty fish and chips. Portion size was good. It might be considered smaller by normal standards, but they where fine for us as we managed to actually finish the chips. crispy batter, not soggy. Chips where okay. Nice quick service. Cod and chips worth the money, the squid was expensive for what it was.

Delicious Cod & chips they ran out of haddock which is our favourite. I love this place as it was no too greasy. They give you a big portions as well.

Tasteless and cheap frozen cod, covered in oily tick batter. Very disappointed and I thought by following the review on Google would be so much better but it's clearly a fail. Scampi were overcooked and very cheap and frozen. Paid for this 2 £15 and very small portion.

Some of the very best fish and chips I've ever eaten. The cod I ate was so fresh and tasty, and as you queue, you can watch them freshly battering the fish. The chips were lovely too. Amazing takeaway. Would recommend

Some of the best fish and chips I've had. You won't be disappointed with the portion size of fish or chips. Well cooked, not too greasy. Fish was lovely and fresh and cooked to order (I did have the extra-large cod which was cooked to order). Was remarkably busy despite being a fairly quiet day in Lyme Regis which is an indication of the reputation of this place.COVID-19 - Customers ordered and paid inside the shop and queued outside. Very good social distancing rules adhered too. Staff all wore masks and were polite and exercised good practices.Not that the shops/stalls on the main front are bad, just that the quality of the fish and chips form Lyme's Fish Bar happens to be the best in town. Only a couple of minutes' walk from the beach and worth the walk. You won't be disappointed.
