Mash and Barrel in West Dorset

We had pre-booked a table for 6.30 on the last night of our Haven Holiday. Safe to say we were severely dissatisfied and disappointed! Waitress came over around 6.45 and took our order. Drinks came and I asked for a straw for our 3 year old. 20 mins later, I get up to go to the toilet and bring back my own straw because they're clearly incapable. 7.30 rolls round, still no food. Others around us looked like they'd also been sat there for ages too! A table of teen boys were sat a few tables away and we'd over heard that they'd been sat there for 40 mins without even having their order taken! I called over the waitress and asked how much longer the food would be. Got told another 15 minutes. So that would have been an hour waiting for food. The restaraunt wasn't even busy so there was no excuse! Had enough at that point. Waitress had no people skills whatsoever! Got up and left in the end. Absolutely ridiculous concidering it's the only place on site for a 'sit down' meal during the week. Haven need to look into this restaurant because it clearly does not work and the staff are absolutely clueless. Ruined the end of our holiday.

I saw the reviews here but this doesn’t reflect my experience. Perhaps the kitchen and staff badge now ramped up and into the swing of things. I had breakfast and dinner here in June. Food was excellent on both occasions and the value for money is reasonable. Breakfast came quickly, very attentive waitress who brought colouring puzzle for a child in our party, very well cooked not greasy , lovely coffee. Dinner as well was good, quite busy , our order was unfortunately missed by the kitchen ordering system, when we asked after a wait however the waitress was very apologetic and the manager offered us our main courses for free which we were not expecting, we had chicken Katsu and buttermilk chicken burger, we can highly recommend both.

They were extremely short staffed, tables dirty, placed people close together. We were told we couldn’t order at the bar, even though we saw people ordering at the bar. Our drinks were sat at the bar for ages. We decided to leave and told the staff to cancel our order. Went to the chip shop on site in the end which was lovely. After reading the reviews on here, I’m pleased we left.

Arrived 15 mins early as not busy was told we could sit outsideWent to bar to the order ignored at first by staff having there drinks and talking a senior member of staff had to step in to get them to take our orderOrdered 1 sharing starter 2 drinks and 2 mains 1 pasta and 1 steak (so not a massive or complicated order)Sat down at 6 ordered just after at 6.40 a member of staff walks over to the table to ask if we wanted it all brought out together no we ordered a starter then 2 mains we wanted them separatelyArrived with the starter and stated they would bring out the mains in 10 minutes (why couldn't they wait for us to finsh our starter!)Rushed starterMains well the pasta was warmish at best the steak was meant to be medium rare nope well done ordered a peppercorn sauce wasn't brought out waited another 5 minutes for cutlery asked about the peppercorn sauce they forgot to but it through guy said it would be out in 3 mins a lady came over to ask how meals were explained steak overdone and awaiting peppercorn sauce (15 minutes later peppercorn sauce brought our by that time we had nearly eaten our nearly warmish dinners!)Absolutely awful service I am in absolute shock no where near busy a few tables at most I counted on the way out max 6-8 tables staff looked bored .The wait and lack of customer service is awful I think the guy whom took our order was training as seemed unsure so order was repeated multiple times by us .Surely if he was training he needed supervision or if he was trained he needs more trainingAs I have worked in the sector I know mistakes can happen but with the summer holidays coming up where you will be turning people away due to how busy it gets you need to work on your customer service experience and wait times. Can I also add no apology offered and they had the audacity to charge us the peppercorn sauce after a complaint and such a wait time ( we all know the sauce is put in a pot microwavedand then put in a little jug this does not take 15 mintues )By reading the reviews I can see we aren't the only hoilday makers to have this issue when we have stayed at other haven parks and eaten at there mash and barrell no issues so it maybe just Limited to this particular one .I personally wouldn't recommend here we saw lovely pubs and restaurants just off the camp I would advise people to eat there

Really disappointing when you just want some nice easy pub food! Let the whole experience down for our Haven holiday.The place itself is nice and the servers were friendly. Thats the only nice things I can say unfortunately.We ate here twice, one time our rare steak was overcooked well done and not even hot. My steak meal was ok medium, but my chips were cold so they took it back and microwaved the whole thing so I got my steak back well done and very dry. (£17.50 meal).Bowl of meatballs watery and cold.Service is slow we just went up and collected our own drinks and ordered from the bar in the end. The price you pay is not worth it. Such a shame especially considering the amount of staff I could count on this occasion. Maybe they're too afraid to go in the kitchen and tell the chefs their food is poor!!

Terrible service. Waitress are all young teens we came in as a family on a family holiday park with two additional needs children and within seconds of us arriving the waitresses were happily whispering and huddling and laughing at us. Gave us bad attitude. Poorly organised several tried to take our order despite all ready ordering. Empty restaurant but got put on the smallest table despite Obviously having 2 kids. Food was actually really good no issues. Prices are reasonable considering location.

Food disappointing. Had to send a dish back (lasagne) as it was burnt around edges and literally in the smallest dish. Not worth the price. Asked for replacement cod and chips which took nearly up to half and hour later. The prices do not reflect the quality. Better off with the fish and chip shop next door.One dish also lacked the side/ another the chicken was over cooked. It seems that the chefs just do not care how they cook or present food!?!It’s just not up to standard.Will not be returning and we are owners!!! Will be sticking to Tides

Restaurant could be great if ran like a restaurant.Ate in there twice this weekend. Both times meals were at best Luke warm . Service was awful. A restaurant manager is needed to oversee things. As no one seems to understand how a Restaurant should be run. Service bad . Food ok but not hot enough and not cheap. Honestly could really be a nice restaurant if someone could work out how to run it and train the staff how to work in a food environment. ReallyDisappointed. Considering it's on a haven site. The haven boss/ owner really should be aware of his /hers investment (definitely would be upset).!!!

Wasn’t the best, waiting 15mins for someone to take our order. Drinks order was messed up at the bar.Food arrived after a 50min wait. Was cold, wife had steak which was really chewy and not rare as she asked.My burger was supposed to have two beef patties but had one and a half 🤦🏻‍♂️ was served with chips but no salad or anything it didn’t look very good on the plate.Probably wouldn’t use again if staying at this Haven site in future.Disappointed.

Place was nice and staff were friendly but inexperienced. Waited a while for both food and drinks. When food came out it was barely hot and they forgot the chicken in a chicken tikka masala. To rectify this they brought out a chicken breast… Could be good if ran properly and staff given some proper training.
