The Greyhound Inn Restaurant in West Dorset

Lovely meal, good selection of ales and ciders too.

We came for lunch with a friend and her two children. The food took quite a while to come out and then, when it did, we then had to wait for them to bring out cutlery and condiments. As we were outside, this meant that by the time we started eating, most of it was quite cold. The breaded brie was good, and I was told that the fishcakes were good, but the burgers were awful. Clearly very cheaply made and they tasted it. I only ate mine because we had been on a long walk and I was hungry. I'm sorry to say that you get a better burger at Burger King! Also, the menu said the burgers came with cheese, bacon and tomato relish and, when they arrived, only one had bacon and neither had relish. When we asked about this, we were told that you had to request the bacon when ordering which doesn't make sense as it was on the actual menu!When we complained, we got a very unenthusiastic and vague apology and no offer to discount our bill, which would've been nice as the burgers were almost £14 each!The pub has a lovely garden and is in a great location and so it's very disappointing how bad the food and service is.

This place is amazing, they are so helpful and kind. I booked a surprise for valentines for my wife, I had some flowers sent there for our table, some petals for the bed, they arranged then in the shape of a heart and went in my car to get the presents to put in the middle, all discretely so my wife had no idea of anything. I booked a table near the fire first to have a drink then we moved onto the dinner table which my wife had no idea of, she thought we were just going for a Valentines drink, then after our meal she thought we were going home, but instead I walked her up to our room.The Greyhound inn made our day! The food was delicious too, we will come back for sure and recommend then to everyone.

I would give zero stars if I could. I booked a table over a month before the booking which was confirmed via email and my number was given. I emailed the day before the booking (on the Friday) to say one of the party had cancelled due to a positive LFT but 4 of us were still coming. No response was received until the following day and one hour before our booking (after everyone had left) to say the pub was closed and had been since the previous day due to covid. Whilst I understand that venues will need to close due to covid to not be informed until an hour before and via email is unacceptable. When I expressed this I did not receive an apology and was told a phone call had been made and voicemail left - this is not the case or we would not have travelled 30 miles to find it was closed. The response has been very rude and I certainly will not be re booking. I would suggest anyone thinking of going her does not do so if this is how they treat their customers. Absolutely appalling.

Yesterday, my wife and I decided to do a circular walk from Maiden Newton via Cattistock and Sydling St Nicholas. We decided to stop for lunch at the Greyhound in Sydling. When we arrived, the pub was virtually empty. I was told that due to Covid there were staff shortages but that the kitchen could offer fried onion rings, chips and ketchup! Meanwhile a party of three who apparently had booked were offered the lunch menu. I keep hearing that the hospitality industry has had a tough time over the last two years. Is it any wonder? Perhaps some of the staff have enjoyed being furloughed a little too much.I can only imagine that the founders of this lovely old coaching Inn must be turning in their graves at this modern approach to business!

We had a group of 13 for a family birthday. Quite a long wait for the food. Fair enough as they were busy. Staff very friendly. But the roasts came out and some were kind of ok but some were really sparse for veg. Like a veg garnish at best. So we asked for a bit more veg, which came out once the very small amount of meat and 2 roast potatoes were finished. Then got charged for the 'extra' veg on the bill! All the other food was great. Kids food portions were really generous (bigger than adult roasts!)

Found this place only by chance, it's location in a small village easily passed by. Staff attitude fantastic and friendly, didn't book for food but they fitted us in and a small menu but the food was excellent. A pleasant find on passing through. Yes I would visit again as the best fish and chips I have ever tasted.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Greyhound Inn. It really felt like home away from home and all staff members went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and looked after at all times. The menu offered a superb selection of fresh, locally sourced food that was of exceptional quality. I would highly recommend the Greyhound Inn B&B and restaurant. We'll be back!

A beautiful experience. We went for the famous Sunday roast. Bar staff where were helpful and friendly, in no time we felt like we where local. The food can not be described in words (I'll attach a picture) of course delicious at the same time. We will be back for sure. I recommend this pub 100%

A nice restaurant. Good selection of food. One of us asked for the fish of the day (salmon), but with something other than the accompaniments on the menu, and they produced a magnificent meal with interesting, well-arranged tastes. The young waiter was unobtrusively attentive, clearly loving his job.Falafel was not so great, but you can't win them all.
