Going on other reviews, I was expecting to award The Sun Inn 5 stars. Close, but not quite. This place is charming. Easy to park and very friendly and helpful staff. It was a lovely day so we ate in the medium sized garden which was lovely. The food, however, was just a little disappointing. Again, basing it on the reviews previously read. The salmon was lovely, and they kindly swapped the new potatoes for roast potatoes, which was very good of them. The Beef Bougonon was great, but the supposed "creamy mash" was anything but creamy, and definitely had a reheated taste to it.I'm being fussy here, but given the rave reviews here which upped my expectations, it was somewhat disappointing to have had what I did. Would I come back again? You bet. But I'll probably avoid having this dish again.Otherwise, a great place to eat.

Definitely deserves its reputation for the food! Tried to get in on spec before but very busy, today we had booked and for a Saturday lunch time I'm glad, as it was still very busy. The carvery was just lovely. Veg all nicely cooked, meat succulent. Waiting staff were really good and prompt with taking the order and bringing drinks. 10 out of 10

Charming little place, would recommend booking, we visited on a Thursday evening and it was busy, staff were friendly.Really crispy roast potatoes, my only negative would be beef was really tough, quite hard to cut.Prices were reasonable and lovely drink selection

One of the best carvery meals we have had in a long time. The waiter squeezed us in even though fully booked. Amazing food and service. Highly recommended.

Good food. We had a prawn cocktail, chicken liver parfait, hake and burger. All were delicious and served quickly. The liver parfait was a bit mild for me but there was plenty of it, with lovely bread and tasty chutney and salad. Friendly and helpful waiter. Good COVID safety. Table service only when we visited. Spotless loos.

It was an amazing lovely pub a bit outside the city centre of Dorchester. We popped to here after visiting the beach / durdle door. It’s better to book a table in advance, but luckily we had seating both evenings we visited - yes, it was so good that we went back twice 😂😂The food was great too - very good portion. Average £20 per person including drinks. The service was good. Staff very friendly.Outside seating is lovely. Will come back if we go back to Dorset.
