The White Lion in West Dorset

This newly refurbished pub has struck a good balance between cosy traditional and modern. There is a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.We visited on pie night and the food was delicious. Recommended.

Wow! What a transformation!This is now a clean, friendly, spacious, community owned and run pub, albeit still a Palmers tied house.It has been completely but sympathetically refurbished and redecorated with more room created for customers by reducing the size of the bar and changing its shape. A doorway has also been closed off so access to the toilets is no longer via walking through the dining area.The beers seem to be well kept, so they should be able to regain a previous 'Cask Marque' award achieved several years ago.The kitchen is currently being updated and full refurbished, so no food at the moment.I just hope that the food, when they start doing it, is good quality, honest, pub food and not the grey, tough, tasteless, and tepid offering that the previous landlord served.

Great food and drinks with friendly bar staff and cosy country decor.

Booked for Sunday lunch 8 March with friends who highly recommended it. Lovely lamb roast with trimmings served by friendly staff at a very reasonable price. Great country pub. Will definitely be booking again.

Decent traditional Pub in a lovely part of the English countryside. I sometimes drop in here on walks/camping in this unspoilt region which is remarkable for several significant pagan sites. I would recommend visiting Pilsdon Pen Iron Age hill fort. Friendly welcome, decent beer and a good, genuine open fire to warm the body and the spirit.

A lovely country pub. Good home cooked food reasonable prices. 5 of us ate all different meals from the menu. All of us were full at the end.Very enjoyable.

So glad to have come across The White Lion. After a long journey from Southampton, struggling to put up a large tent with 2 excited doggies getting in the way....the evening drawing in...we were dismayed to find our local pub/inn was shut. Luckily a local couple recommended The White Lion in Broadwindsor. So tired, thirsty and very hungry we all headed there in car with doggies in tow. Apart from struggling to find somewhere to park - as no car park....we absolutely loved The White Lion! Super dog-friendly (we fed doggies before we ate).....delicious home cooked food....great price for the portion sizes (very generous!).....drinks great....and service was fantastic. The new Landlady was absolutely lovely and it was just what we needed after a long day. Would highly recommend.

Great local pub offering good quality food! Lovely staff who will chop and change stuff on the menu to suit you. Very fairly priced and well presented main and desert.. Happy to recommend and would definitely eat there again. 😊👍
