The Black Dog in Weymouth and Portland

Worst place in Weymouth by far , the experience myself and my family had was horrendous , hospitality in this pub is the lowest level i have ever experienced. The bar staff are most certainly in the wrong career attitude on the bar staff was disgusting, if u have children do not go in this pub as they discriminate against children and infact children would have more respect than these cretins running the place !! The lady with the awful hair cut and disgusting mouth should be sacked and along with other reviews i have seen confirms there attitude with the rude remarks back , DEFINITELY AVOID this pub !!In regards to your response clearly from your previous reviews you have a problem with children and have double standards !! That child was not crawling around your pub we were in there literally 5 minutes . The only abuse was from your disgusting staff and how they spoke which other reviews have substantiated . In regards to mental health i see you use this on every comment that is a bad review how about ours comming into a pub and being abused . Reviews speak for there self disgusting place to visit , the loss of custom will show this .

Really lovely atmosphere in this cosy old pub. Staff very friendly and efficient. Super clean & hygienic. Really enjoyed our visit here.

I always have a good night when I come here. Saturday night was no exception, we listened to a Madness tribute band. The staff were polite and efficient and there was a wonderful atmosphere of fun and laughter. We'll worth a visit

Most dreadful customer service I have ever encountered. I literally looked up from my phone as I was buried in it, happy to unwind with a drink and my friend was relaying what the score was on rules which apparently was no big groups at tables. She said calmly it’s quite strict. As the welcome we got was very hostile from the bar man from even before anything was said. But honestly that is just a general observational opinion. My friend was telling me that I needed to get out my ID. At 31 I was flattered. But I was immediately refused service after my friend relayed what the bar man said after my only ignorance of having my head in my phone. She probably only wished I would have listened!!I politely pointed over to our elderly friends and pointed out they were having a chilled out lovely time. As we intended. We were were met with what I can only be described as a very over sensitive response to an polite observation.I wouldn’t go here if you want to enjoy a drink with friends. I had been told by locals that it was previously encouraged to allow drinkers in and the next bar we went to we were met by an extremely lovely lady who even told my friend she was the nicest girl she’d met.So honestly… working for 14 years as a manager myself in hospitality…. I’d suggest having a polite discussion with your customers. Who knows? The bar man may have been hungover or having a bad day? But we were certainly in a good mood before entertaining this place with an awfully negative welcome. I would give minus stars.

Amazing old pub with a lot of history. Located just near the beach. Fantastic ambience. Friendly staff. Excellent service. Live music. Very decent prices. Loved it overall.

Zero starts if I could. Awful pub. Horrendous staff, especially the one with the awful wig. Felt unwelcome since I walked in the place. Over heard staff moaning about our table. We went in for a couple of drinks and felt pressured to leave as soon as we sat down. Staff continuously staring at us making us feel uncomfortable. Used to be a great pub with a great vibe, not so much now. Clapped.

Upon entering these premises I was greated by the smell of urine and was made to feel very unwelcome. The treatment I received from the bar staff was absolutely awful, I was immediately told of the no groups rule and asked for my ID (no hello or friendly greeting) which I kindly accepted and provided I then relayed this information to a friend, the barman then refused to serve me as apparently I was mentioning the fact they were strict. I am an assistant manager at a hotel in Somerset and have been in the hospitality industry for 10+ years and have never experienced such terrible service as a customer. Other local establishments have stated that other people have received dreadful treatment here.

Had the best afternoon relaxing with my husband and dog in front of the fire in this lovely, cosy little gem of a pub. Great service from the friendly staff, delicious "home cooked" food and brilliant selection of drinks (the gin bar was my particular favourite). We will most certainly be visiting again.

Great pub with plenty of space but still feels cosy. Food was great and plenty of choice for drinks. Service was also very good and staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be back.

This is a lovely little pub in a pedestrian area stopped for a drink and a snack for lunch. Ordered a Fish finger sandwich and comes with fries and a salad. Must say it was lovely just what we needed, the staff were first class. I gave this pub 5 stars, but if your not a dog lover do not use this place. It was busy and I counted 8 dogs all In the lower part of the pub, I'm a dog lover but it was starting to get to me with the smell of dog when I was eating my sandwich. It was a bit like battersea dogs home. Never seen so many dogs in a pub.
