The Pulpit Inn in Weymouth and Portland

Superb location with views across to Portland Bill Lighthouse, lots of outdoor seating for use in better weather. Dog friendly with a dedicated space for them, plus other dining areas that are dog free. Out front is a slightly untidy carpark and Children's play area, both look like they get lots of use and need a bit of attention.We went in for lunch, primarily because the cafe next to the big public car park is not dog friendly and it was too cold to sit outside on benches in the wind. Just a few minutes walk back up the road is the inviting looking Pulpit Inn and we were pleased to find it open, serving lunch and open to visitors with dogs.Had to wait 15 minutes at the bar to order. There was only one person on the bar, struggling with a French party of 8 who wanted every dish translated and described, then proceeded to pay individually by card on a single order 🤦. Staff were friendly and patient, but could see a queue forming and didn't call for help. Someone finally came out from the kitchen to help serve, while the French were still paying their bill. I ordered food and took our beers back to the table. After waiting that long I was desperate for a nice pint of real beer. Unfortunately the ale was not very well kept, flat and didn't taste great. Typical out of season beer in a tourist pub and such a disappointment.We ordered "warmed chibatta baggettes" thinking pannini. They came out as cold chibatta rolls, which they took back and warmed for us. The staff were really good and happy to help. However the ham and dijon mustard roll was actually made with full strength English mustard. The ham was a decent nice thick meat and the bread was good. The sides of chips were the annoyingly common 'mini basket' with paper. Resulting in hardly any chips to share out. A side of chips should be a decent portion, what is it with pubs and chip portions - it's not truffles.I'm sure it will be buzzing in summer, Portland Bill and the Lighthouse peninsula are fantastic to visit and explore. Hopefully you'll find better beer, menu items as described and more staff serving.

Fantastic meal here today, simple food done really well, lovely friendly staff and great set up!

I'm giving four stars not because of the beer or food (they're OK but not exceptional) but because the people who run it are always excellent .

To start with, the only nice is the views!Having myself a food business i don't know how people rate this places. Maybe they never had a proper meal in their life.Food was expensive for what it was. Not quantity wise but for quality that didn't had any.Don't go by the pictures on their profile it's misguiding.Ordered the pulpit in style 6 oz burguer..."this should be the crown jewell of their burgers" Came to the table a poor quality non seasoned meat with a bit of chicken breast on top of the beef, no salad nothing just meat and bread. All heated up! bread was old and heated , chips were heated up and not cooked properly, my daughter had nuggets, baked beans and chips.The tomato sauce on the beans was dry the nuggets overcooked and tasteless.Also ordered some garlic bread... Came 2 slices of toast with garlic butter on them.. 2£ for 2 slices of toast. I would pay 5 for a proper bread and not toast.Needless to say I'm not going back. Don't understand how people can run a food business and not put all their pride in what they give to the customer.Very badly managed business. Look at the pictures... Shocking that's 50£ pounds worth of food. Again if it was a nice burguer and not heated food I would pay that or more without a problem.

Stayed at the Pulpit in our own vans @£10 a night. Also drank and ate in pub. Drinks were fine, but were disappointed by the food. Quite expensive for standard fare.

Stayed here last week for 2 nights with the hubby.Room was lovely,very clean,plenty of space,bed was so comfortable,Full English breakfast was great,friendly owners,we would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely fantastic and perfectly located on the island!!! Rooms clean, guest toiletries to hand. Extremely friendly staff and food was great too! I recommend this place highly and I will certainly be returning!!

We had the Sunday lunch carvery today and it was very good. With friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and stunning views out to sea, we will return again soon.

It's ok, nothing special, food prices average along with the food itself. Had a steak, bit fatty, no mustard or salt, staff not particularly arsed, but it's dated and past it's best , bit like my steak...

You can park your Motorhome overnight for £10. Friendly service. Food average but reasonably priced.
