One of the most relaxing short breaks we have ever had.We leave the Rudloe Arms on Sunday morning after a two night stay with breakfast and evening meal included, having stayed in the David Bailey room within the main house. We had great fun trying to guess who the famous photos were on our walls. This was a voucher present bought for us 2 years ago by our family which had to be previously cancelled because of COVID, but it was well worth the wait. From the moment we arrived, the staff were politely attentive, nothing was too much trouble, even our early morning need for tea and real coffee. The ethos of this hotel is that the White family want you to feel that you are a guest in their home, and as far as we are concerned that was how it felt, even down to the food, which was excellent. Yes there are extras if you want to push the boat out a bit more, we did and found it was worth the extra cost. This is a different type of break, a chance to relax and unwind without the hassle to finish and leave. You can wonder around the grounds and the house, enjoy the beautiful views, art, photos and unique furniture in everyday use.The members of the White family take an active role in the day to day running of the hotel. Unexpectedly we had the chance to speak to Mr W. and other members of the family, and found them all to be friendly, down-to-earth and inspiring. Some people will love this amazing retreat and some may not. As the family themselves told us, it’s like marmite. But we get it and will be back to further enjoy the romance of Marco Pierre White’s ethos.

Booked this place as a one day get away through woucher. Read reviews after and got slightly upset as they were very average. But to my surprise the place was a absolutely wonderful. Great location, eclectic decor and lovely kept grounds. Rooms were clean (we stayed at the second building), beds nice and soft, tea facilities in the room. 3 course dinner had supplementary choice but we opted for what was included and loved it. Portion sizes were not huge, but very tasty with nice twists offered by the chef. We don't drink so can't comment on alcohol prices.Breakfast was superb as well. Served with a smile and manners. Coffee was roasted to perfection too. Met Clive on our way out - another lovely addition to the place. All in all we are very happy with our stay and definitely will be back.

Had a fab time. Went for a birthday treat and it did not disappoint. Saw Marco in the grounds since he lives there. Great food including the breakfast. Lots of lounges to sit in and veg out. Artwork was beautiful and very eclectic - very MPW.Highly recommended

Stayed here 6 years ago when it first opened and had amazing food. Oh what a difference this time. Very limited evening menu, 4 cold starters (£6.50 extra for prawn cocktail!) Mains were choice of fish cake, game pie, gnocchi with veg or seafood sauce. Or steak with a supplement if £12.50! Chips and any extra veg £4 extra per item. Many people opted to pay extra on the second night, for prawns and steak as the menu was so drab. Cheapest wine was £39.50! And yes if you wanted orange juice with breakfast an extra £4.95 for a small bottle! Full English breakfast an extra £6.95 and if you wanted to add beans to your bacon and egg meal an extra £4! Plus 10% service charge added to all drinks and extras.Must say the staff were great and the grounds stunning.

Booked a superior room but was quite basic. Not even a kettle or teabags in the room. Toiletries not refreshed 2’d day and very poor lighting. Restaurant menu very limited and same both nights of stay. Lots of supplements. Steak extra £12.95 all veg. £4.95 each and 125m unspecified mediocre house wine £9.50. Even breakfast they wanted supplements. £4.94 for fruit juice and £6.50 for full English. To top it all they tried to overcharge on the bill by nearly £90 for supplements and drinks we hadn’t had including a £58 bottle of wine (plus10% service charge) we hadn’t had.Tip. Stay somewhere else.

Very disappointing. We went on a Groupon deal which was rearranged due to covid. They were very good in allowing this, but we were due a 6 course tasting menu and received four courses, one of which being olives and bread. Nearly every item required surcharges which seemed rather steep. Our accommodation was adequate. Breakfast once again was limited in choices and contained lots of surcharges, for a glass of juice it was £5. Tea and coffee was included and plenty of toast. Wouldn't go again plenty of other places to choose from.

We stayed for a couple of nights here in September. The experience was -well -variable. The meal on first night and the breakfast on the following morning were really excellent- both in terms of service and standard of the meal. The following evening we were kept waiting 25 minutes between courses and the same happened at breakfast on the morning we left. There appeared to be some staffing problems. We were unimpressed on arrival to find a small cart containing empty bottles in the front entrance which remained there throughout our stay. Also, the entrance hall appeared to be used for furniture storage. The rooms in the annexe were comfortable enough but a bit bleak. What appeared to be lacking overall was supervision and firm management, which was rather a shame in view of the fine building, good cuisine and commanding position.

What a truly spectacular gothic mansion, full of character and lovely art. Surprisingly cosy for a big place and superb food. Staff were lovely and well marshalled by Mirabelle.Did the dinner , B&B package which was good value, though many supplements were available. Beautiful lounges to sit in and enjoy a coffee.Grounds will look great in the Spring.Stayed in the Treetops separate residence, which was great but could do with a little TLC. Overall a brilliant birthday treat.

Lovely stay in a very quirky hotel. All staff were very friendly and nothing was too much for them. The 2 Hotel dogs are lovely and very well behaved. The set menu was very limited and the same both nights, but the quality was good. Morning breakfast was good and filling. Had to pay extra for vegetables, chips and for the cooked breakfast.Drinks were very expensive too.All in all a good hotel, but beware of a lot of hidden extras.

A unique hotel experience. Lots of personality. So many interesting antiques, art , attention to detail and tasteful touches . A bit like a personal museum within a stately home. Beautiful grounds and views. A lovely friendly vibe. Very comfortable and homely. Very well thought out. Great food . Lovely staff. Drinks are expensive but I expected that . Good quality mattress , duvet and pillows. Tree tops room very quiet, spacious and comfortable. Overall a wonderful experience. We felt valued and welcome. Even Marco acknowledged and welcomed us which we didn’t expect. We will definitely recommend and return to this beautiful hotel.
