The Kings Arms in Wiltshire

Travelled to Melksham for a family event having been born and lived in Melksham until the age of eighteen. I used to work behind the bar in he Kings Arms as a student back in the mid 1970's and was amazed to see the changes that had been made.Our room was of a good size and had all the things we needed for our short stay, the bed was comfy and the shower was excellent. Fresh milk for our room was a nice touch and much appreciated.We ate in the restaurant but were not really able to do the menu justice as we had already eaten earlier in the afternoon. The choices of dish available on the menu were not the usual pub fare that one usually comes across and we would have liked to stay longer and worked our way through some of the more unusual dishes. What we did eat was well prepared, cooked well and very filling.The breakfast menu is quite extensive and should cater for most dietary tastes. The Full English and Eggs Benedict were cooked to order, (which is rare for a Full English these days), and were both filling and of high quality.All the staff we came across were without exception genuinely friendly and helpful people. We were looked after well and given help when needed. If we get the chance we will try to return.

We spent 2 nights here and were very pleased with the accommodation. The room was clean, comfortable and furnished to a high standard. Good quality toiletries in the bathroom and bottles of water provided. WiFi was fast and reliable. The breakfasts were very good as was the restaurant food on Saturday evening. The only problem we had was 2 different members of staff telling us that food wasn’t served on a Sunday after 5pm, meaning we had to leave the hotel and drive to a local restaurant that was open later. We returned around 7.30pm to find guests eating a roast in the bar area! I’ve no idea why we were not advised of this but on the whole it didn’t spoil our stay. It would have been nice to spend our money in the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would stay here again.

Stayed just one night on the spur of the moment whilst travelling to see family. We arrived quite late so didn't try an evening meal butreceived a warm friendly welcome from the staff and the room was lovely , everything clean with a comfortable bed, great shower in a large bathroom . Noise from other guests was minimal so a good night's sleep was had. Nice to have real milk in the room to make coffee. Breakfast was excellent, included in the price, all very well cooked and fresh ingredients .Would definitely book again but would like to stay longer if would make a perfect base to explore the area. Good value for money

We tried out the King's Arms on a Wednesday: 25% off food night. The wine is expensive but quite good. The starters were a bit short, the mackerel salad didn't have much mackerel in it for £7.95, but was very nice and the salad was well dressed with plenty of capers! The steak was very good, exactly as we asked. So overall we may be back if we save up or find a way to charge it in expenses.

We stayed here as part of a wedding party for two nights.Check in - when we arrived, we had to wait for check in process . It wasn't clearly signposted where to go to check in and we were told there would be a 15 minute wait to check in. We had to go to a wedding party so this wasn't ideal. We arrived at 6pm. not as per your reply. I think you have us confused with someone else.Room - we had paid for an upgraded courtyard room, which was fine, although dark and the only view it had was of the carpark. It was clean and the shower was good.Service - Breakfast was nice enough. The staff seemed inconvenienced by our presence, on the last day of our stay we had a long wait for breakfast. then as we were finishing our plates, the server told us quite rudely that checkout was ten minutes ago. We were a bit upset by this as we had waited for our breakfast for a long while and we had given them benefit of the doubt when it came to waiting to check into our roomOverall, not a great experience.

We had a really good weekend and stay. Very comfortable and tastefully decorated bedroom as was the rest of the hotel/bar/restaurant areas. Friendly but professional stay who were very helpful. Meal excellent in the restaurant and breakfast was good too - plenty of choice! Could just have been a little quicker with serving but that was not a big deal!Would certainly go there again and also try other hotels that they have.

We enjoyed staying in this beautiful old hotel, restored and decorated to a high standard. Our disappointment was the rooms radiators did not work, so we were welcomed with a very cold room on arrival. We were given a small, noisy electric fan heater. My other comment would be that the beds are of a low standard and sadly all the pillows on the beds were paper thin, flat as a pancake.I suggest this beautiful hotel (actually all the Butcombe hotels, we've tried others) should improve the quality of their sleeping experience, better beds and pillows.

Easy parking and a pleasant welcome to our Sunday lunch. Vegetarian option was excellent - lovely nut roast and no overcooked veg! A delicious main course & compliments to the chef.Serving staff were attentive and polite.Decor and fittings were in excellent order.I strongly recommend a visit.

Edit: We gave the King's Arms another try via invitation to dinner. Honestly the difference is night and day, the food was absolutely wonderful, filling and made a fantastic evening overall, with very courteous staff. We enjoyed the dinner enough that we decided to have another breakfast at the establishment with exact same orders. Again the service was phenomenal and the food was delicious.Old: Went for breakfast with my partner as she sung high praises from her prior experience. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. First problem we had was that we had ordered a pot of tea each and while mine was fine, my partner attempted to fill her cup but the tea only came half way. Was sorted out after bringing up the issue with staff. Next we ordered our breakfast, partner asked for 2 croissants and I asked for the loaded bacon butty, which was advertised on sourdough bread. After about 40 minutes, on a quiet morning, our food finally arrives. £7.25 for a couple of rashers in 2 slices of hovis bread seems very steep and optimistic considering its possible to make more than I received for about a third of the price, not to mention there was no offer of jam or butter with the croissant for my partner until asked. Overall I can't help but feel that I have been swindled and I honestly could not recommend it. I don't like to complain but words can not describe just how dissatisfied I am with the lackluster food and uninterested staff.

We were a large group staying the night and eating in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. All the staff were very helpful staff at all points of our stay, from booking to arrivals and all the bar and wait staff. Can't thank them all enough for making our stay so easy and comfortable. Also a really lovely pub with great rooms and excellent food. I would highly recommend the pub and stay again if we are in the area, it's a bit of a gem.
