Excellent food, with good quality vegetarian options - really tasty. Great view over the estuary. A bit noisy, so not quite got the ambience we hoped for. Maybe the area upstairs was quieter. But definitely recommend.

Staying down in Appledore for a few nights with my wife and our 3 dogs. Great location, accommodation at the sailors rest, and we had a wonderful breakfast (probably one of the best I have had in sometime) at the Royal George. We will look forward to having dinner and some drinks later. Highly recommend a stay and a stop in

Visited here while they had staffing issues with covid but they managed to accommodate us outside. The fish and chips was delicious and the location had great views of the water. Definitely recommended to anyone visiting the area.

Amazing Sunday lunch! Starters and main courses all delicious. A very warm welcome awaited our party of nine. Service and attention to detail was excellent! Highly recommend.

We had the most delicious lunch here. Amazing food and service. The views were fabulous too. We had a dog with us so limited to downstairs only, but completely understand that! Not everyone likes dogs. Was a little more expensive than your usual pub grub but absolutely worth it. Would definitely return and recommend.

Having eaten here many times this experience fell far short of our expectations. We’ve always held the Royal George as a favourite. Although it’s the start of 2022 season so many basic errors kept on coming bordering on amateurish (such as not clearing away dirty glasses, referring to a key main dish as beef when it’s in fact veal). Then there were the colossal failures in the kitchen from miscommunication with the front of house resulting in wrong orders being cooked. Two of our main meals were sent back as totally wrong and many parts of all dishes arrived either being cold/under or over-cooked. Unacceptable failures when your charging twice per head compared to the other pubs/restaurants in Appledore which is not good enough. It’s a restaurant not a pub so simplify the main menu and do it right. Train your staff and manage your kitchen well. If this had been my first time at the Royal George I wouldn’t be returning again

Fantastic views across the estuary to Crow Point. Friendly staff. Comfy, welcoming, good food, dog friendly as with most places in the area. More of a gastro pub than a bar. Could easily get nicely sossled sitting in the window watching the tide come in after a good lunch.

We took my parents for a meal this lunchtime to celebrate their anniversary. Never been before, as always you never know what the food etc might be like when checking out a new place. Omg seriously, the second you walk through the door you are welcomed to your table. The staff make you feel so comfortable and as for the food, that is absolutely amazing.... proper yum! Can't wait to go again ☺️

We came here at lunchtime last week, they squeezed us in although we didn't have a booking - definitely recommend booking to make sure you get a spot. The atmosphere is relaxed and the huge windows offer a beautiful view across the water. We are vegan and we were very happy to find 3 main dishes that were suitable, a tofu burger, bubble and squeak and a curry. All three were delicious, very well presented and the portion sizes were great. We asked for a child's portion for our 3 year old of the bubble squeak as nothing on the children's menu was suitable, and she received half the usual portion (maybe even a little more) which was excellent. The waiting staff were friendly and accommodating. Thank you for having us ☺️

Four of us were staying in Appledore and we phoned to book a table last night. Although they were busy they did offer us a table at 5pm which was fine.On arrival this evening we were warmly welcomed and shown to our window table overlooking the estuary. The menu was varied and fresh fish was on offer. The food was delicious and beautifully cooked and the service that we experienced was first class. We can thoroughly recommend The Royal George for excellent food in outstanding location
