The Vine Tree in Wiltshire

Arrived for lunch on a balmy March Saturday (17degrees) and enjoyed a modern take on classic pub grub. Ham egg and chips like you have never had before. Relaxed atmosphere and despite being rushed off their feet with the unexpected spring rush, the staff were delightful and accommodating.

Lovely location and nice as atmosphere, but unfortunately you can only have a full on Sunday lunch on Sunday according to the waitress. So we settled for some crisps instead.

Ok I wish to start with the positives, as this place has always been a special place to visit for me. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the place was lovely and warm on a cold night , and the food was above average. However there were a few things that let the night down, and could do with tweaking.The vine tree has always been a step up from from the norm, with a more select menu, normally done well, and the experience has alway in the past made for a special night. This time however I left a little disappointed. From seating at the table the first things we noticed were the napkins were now coarse tea towels of the quality you would find in Ikea. Clean but not conditioned, a little “too rustic” for a food that commands the prices charged.The steak arrived , and appeared lovely , however we were waiting for a minute for a side of vegetables as what was on the plate didn’t suggest we would finish it anywhere near full. They didn’t arrive and we were still hungry after eating the meal. I had the t-bone, which was very tasty and cooked perfectly , but not the best quality of meet I’ve had , my partner had the braised beef with mash, again cooked lovely and tender. However we were both hungry. At the prices charged that’s not what I expect from a main. Also the peppercorn sauce was charged at an addition £3 for what was already a £22.50 meal, that doesn’t sit well with me.Then the cost of a weak lager shandy as I was driving was £4.75 , this in itself is pretty disgusting considering the Average cost of a pint , let alone a weak shandy. Lime and soda also £3.45.As far as I’m aware this isn’t a Michelin star pub, so unsure why they are charging Michelin prices.Moving on to pudding, my partner had the pear and apple crumble with custard, however the custard was more of a vanilla milk, and not very much of that either. I had the sticky toffee pudding and this was lovely, however too heavy for me.The dessert menu was missing a palette cleanser , something light like a sorbet , I assume that wouldn’t bother some people and just my opinion.Another small niggle was when the pudding spoon were bought out, they were placed on the Center of the rustic wooden table. They weren’t wrapped in napkins or placed on a plate, again for the price of service , I expected more , even weather-spoons wrap them in napkins last time i frequented one.I guess the summary would be , food great but service not worth the money paid, I imagine they are trying to re-coup since a poor last 2 years and I really do empathise with the hospitality trade. But if you are going to charge these prices , you need to step up the game. Will I go back, I think maybe as these things can be improved and the little food I ate I throughly enjoyed , there just wasn’t enough for the money paid.They feel they are priced correctly for the quality of food they provide , However I personally don’t feel you should walk away from a meal hungry, and a sprinkle of greens on a plate doesn’t provide a good group to meet the quota.

Staying at a local caravan site so visited on the spur of the moment. Welcomed with a nice seat near a lovely open fire. Service was good and food was great. Locals sat nearby recommended loads of places to visit. Loved Lacock Village. Thanks. If we had stayed longer we would have come back. Good luck.

Fabulous food with great staff. We had excellent calamari followed by chicken Kiev and wagyu burger. Dessert was cheesecake and a chocolate mousse. All superb (and I eat out at top London restaurants for my job). No more expensive than other local gastro pubs. Personal touch and excellent service. Cool music too! Highly recommended!

Open on a Monday and recommended we went to Norton and The Vine Tree Inn for dinner. The pub is such a typical cosy country pub with oodles of character. In the summer, it has bike racks and a massive outdoor table area. In winter, warmth from the inside and the staff, which has the owner at the heart. Really inviting menu of mouthwatering dishes, deciding on which one is a nice problem to have.Add the carefully selected tap range, and you have an excellent choice for lunch or dinner and highly recommended.

In the middle of nowhere, but, well worth the diversion. Lovely, friendly service. Excellent food, looks expensive at first glance BUT actually, its great value for money. The seafood sharing platter was superb. Already planning another diversion to the middle of nowhere.

A very nice warm welcoming country pub.Two of us arrived not pre-booked for an evening meal and a drink, to find the place quite busy as they where having a speciality night (Thai menu)A table was found for us no fuss!The set menu was ample and very tasty and reasonably priced. A nice treat and a venue to be revisited.Thank you

Unbelievably good value. Delicious meal, interesting menu, cosy pub atmosphere and attentive staff. We had blackened trout and cheese soufflé for starters and then monkfish curry and wags burger for mains. We were too full for puds. All was excellent!

I went for a dinner last night with my friend. We was served dinner by chef George who was so welcoming and made sure everything was perfect for us .Absolutely amazing service and the food was incredible.
