Five of us went for Sunday dinner. We all ordered roast beef. We waited almost a hour for our food and when it arrived it was warm not hot! People arrived and ordered after us and were served a good while before us. They also had beef . Food flavour was good but not hot enough. It seemed like we were the forgotten table. One man came to take our dessert order and because somebody on the next table called him over to them he left us and went to them which I found to be rather rude! I’m not one to make a fuss and I know people are busy but to leave us to go to another table is not my idea of good service. However most of the other staff were helpful and pleasant. I did leave feeling quite disappointed though.

An English pub with an eclectic and funky decor, good service and excellent food at reasonable prices. My Beer Battered Haddock and Chips, followed by a Baileys Cheesecake were both superb. Highly recommended.

Really nice place, staff very welcoming and food was lovely. Would definitely recommend, five very different meals and all cooked beautifully. Light and crispy fish, also the offer of specials and mid week lower priced menu was such good value. Very enjoyable evening and they were happy to bring out a surprise birthday cake for dessert too. We'll be back 🙂

The Christmas lunch yesterday was just tremendous. I don’t recall having better crab or trout than what was on my seafood platter starter. The turkey was beautifully moist on my main meal and the Christmas pudding was surprisingly light. The staff were very attentive despite how busy they were and the portions were remarkably generous. To top it all, my wife found a threepenny bit in her pudding. We’ll be there again next year!

Good place to go for a good range of wine and lovely fish. Unfortunately some meals are served just with a meagre portion of potatoes or chips. Not even a little garnish of salad to add colour and improve the appearance. For the price of the meals it would be good if some vegetables were included. The cost of them as sides merely makes the meal quite expensive.

Cannot express how utterly disappointed I am with this place. I'd hoped that it would have changed in the 5 years since I'd been there before for dinner. On that occasion the owner told my autistic nephew that children should be seen and not heard after he became excited during our meal. Sadly it's a case of like father like daughter as the owner's daughter, now the duty manager, took exception to my 18 month old labrador's behaviour at a supposedly dog friendly pub. After overhearing me discussing with my friends how her comments and attitude towards my dog was unappreciated, she took the decision to cut off our service... but not directly. She told her bar staff to cut us off and then promptly left the building in order to avoid any recrimination on her part. A shockingly unprofessional move. Fortunately we live closer to an alternative pub, the funky bear which is close by and will be receiving my patronage in the future. I would strongly recommend people to avoid this establishment and go anywhere else in order to avoid the petty nepotistic management team and leave them to rule over their little kingdom as they see fit. Regular bar staff are understanding and friendly.

An attractive interior with a good selection of ales available, decent wine , but the food… the food is delicious! We had the mushroom medley , the black pudding with poached egg, shin of beef and pork belly and couldn’t fault any of it. I was slightly nervous of ordering the pork belly as it is cooked with fennel and I thought the aniseed taste might be overpowering. However it was absolutely perfect. The staff were friendly and efficient. I will unhesitatingly visit again when in the area.

Don't let the traditional pub exterior fool you, walk inside and take a good look around. What lies at the heart of The Butlers Arms is suave, eclectic and creative. Is that a tall backlit top shelf behind the bar? Is that a doll with wings? Is that a vintage hair dryer above a row of passenger airline seats? It may be an enigma, but The Butlers Arms delivers food and drink choices leans towards the traditional. It has great menu offerings. It's focus is on seafood, which has a page dedicated to it.The pick of the dishes for me was the Crispy Turmeric Prawns. The batter was so light and tangy, the prawns so plump. Service was approachable, warm and accurate. The restaurant was packed, but the staff still managed to deliver my orders quickly.A high quality, refreshingly contemporary pub dining experience.Note: this is a dog friendly pub. There were dog owners and water bowls abound in the bar area.

Traditional pub interior with separate bar drinking area and dining area. Good daily menu choice and with specials - those usually seafood based. Good value, well presented, decent portions and very enjoyable.

Yes, yes and YES!!!An incredibly easy five star review, even though it's extremely rare for me to hand out five stars. When I visit a restaurant, I primarily want good food, after that I'm looking for pleasant service from the staff, and as a cherry on top, if the value for money is good, I certainly won't complain. The Butlers Arms had it all, with more to spare. This was probably some of the best food I've ever had at a 'pub'. The flavours were excellent, the food arrived piping hot and I genuinely felt like I was having a home cooked meal, which means everything tasted freshly prepared. The service blew me away too, the ladies and the gentleman who served us were on fire!! Nothing but smiles, polite manners and an extremely accommodating attitude. When they were not serving us, they could be seen going around making sure everything was taken care of in the restaurant. This is true five star service. As for the price, for the quality and selection on offer, I felt the value for money was excellent. They have 3 and 2 course special offers on at various times, which are all amazing. A great selection without feeling like you have to choose from the dull end of the menu.On top of all this, they source their food locally where possible and smoke their own fish in house (which tasted sublime).I highly recommend The Butlers Arms and can see myself dining here many times in the very near future with friends and family.Note to owners: Well done and please never compromise, you're amazing and I hope you stay that way!!
