Somali Restaurant in Birmingham

Ordered via Uber today and wasn't sure what to expect as I'd never eaten Somali food. Everything we ordered was fantastic. Will 100% be ordering again. 👌👌👌

I can’t rate them enough. Very friendly. There’s no actual menu so I didn’t know what to order but they actually showed me their dishes and decided to get a bit of everything. I loved the cuisine and the food was very delicious. Would highly recommend.Good seating space. The service I got and their friendliness is what makes this a 5/5 experience.It’s a busy street and parking can get tricky. I got on street parking so it depends on the time of the day you’re visiting.

I tried this place out for the very first time as I wanted to try Somali/Yemeni food something different from another culture. I was very impressed as it was like a proper homemade cuisine. We had rice, lamb, small lamb pieces, thin chicken breast/thigh pieces, stew, all on top of the rice. Similar to our Asian food but less Spicier. The portion was really big as well. We had it between three and were fill at the end. A proper vibe inside from a traditional Somali/Yemeni gathering. Would definitely come back again.

Food was fresh, over cooked almost burnt chicken very dry. I don't recommend.

I like the chicken and rice, never lets me down. Quick fast hot plate of food and hits the spot.Atmosphere can be Rowdy at times, but i can accept that, i only go for the plate of food and it makes me happy.There hot mutton soup and some baked bread from Yaffa's is another winter treat if i am passing through small heath..

A MUST-TRY for anyone hasn’t experienced Somali food!Delicious rice with a large variety of meats. The raisins and vegetables side unique to the African dish was amazingly tasteful too.My photo shows the size of a portion for one person but it took 2 to finish it. Generously sized and excellent prices. Enjoy the family curtained room experience too. Thank you.

The food was very nice especially the lamb and portion size was perfect. The customer service couldn’t have been better and seating was great as they had closed of sections if you required/wanted privacy. The price was good and I would overall recommend.

Every time i visit Birmingham i go to this restaurant, on the outside you probably would pass it and fortunately on the inside it has been updated. The food is delicious and i can never believe how cheap it is, the people are so polite and never bother you. Its fabulous. Give it a try .

I always tell my wife about how delicious Somali food is, based on my experience when I was living near to their community in Minneapolis, MN many years ago.So we were in Birmingham last month and decided to give it a go. Honestly, we went to Salama Somali Restaurant twice on two consecutive days.Inside, I liked the old fashioned Somali style dining which tables were in booths or tiny cubicles with long curtain around it for added privacy, but of course there was an open plan dining area too.Two thumbs up for all 3 dishes that we ordered. The Somali rice was fragrant to go with either thinly sliced grilled steak, grilled chicken or lamb stew. Steak & chicken were well-spiced. The lamb was so tender and juicy. They served all of that with a plate of salad and a bowl of spicy yoghurt coriander dip. It's a must try.
