Tipu Sultan MaJestic Dining in Birmingham

Amazing atmosphere. Only had to wait 15 minutes on a Saturday night! The service at the table was brilliant. The food was good. Had the lamb chops which were amazing. The lab biryani was good but could have been better. The achari chicken curry was again strikingly good.

Dressed to impressFrom the roadside Tipu Sultan Majestic doesn’t shout about what it beholds. It looks more like an old fashioned worker’s union club. Cast your doubts aside and make your way to the car park. You’ll notice some peculiarities. Why are there cannons outside? Why is there a suit of armour in the reception area? Thankfully the theme becomes more in tune with the cuisine as you walk further past the bar and on into the cavernous restaurant. It is huge and, for a Sunday afternoon, packed.There are tables of all shapes and sizes. Sections. Booths. It is a venue for parties.There are loads of attentive service staff at your beck and call.The menu is classic British Indian and for all it’s interior decadence, dishes are not. They are thankfully, fresh and tasty. My pick of the dishes was the murgh pakora.A great place to have a get together with family and enjoy beautiful British Indian cuisine.

Great place to dine in, fantastic reception service and 10/10 for the interior inside. The staff were extremely helpful, especially Zohaib, who regularly was at our service. The starters are fantastic 👌, especially the lamb chops, all the starters had great flavours. We got lamb karahi, again excellent 👌. To top it of a beautiful brownie with vanilla ice cream and falooda. Definitely would recommend this place, was not disappointed.

It is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in the UK. The venue is beautiful, the food is incredible and service has always been brilliant for me.I have paid a lot more and lot less for a curry in London. I would say this falls somewhere in the middle. But for the quality of food, it's worth every penny.

This was my first time eating here and it was so disappointing.The service here was terrible. The waiters seemed so much more interested to clear up tables than to serve us. Every single time we had to wave or I had to stand up in order to grab someone's attention.We all wanted Coke for drinks but they only came served in bottles which weren't even chilled. I had asked for a glass with ice too and assumed the flick of the waiter's head meant that I would be getting this. Instead we didn't get those, we only received glasses after the straws they provided kept causing the Coke to overflow. There was an option to get Pepsi in a glass with ice which was cheaper, but we didn't want Pepsi and it's bizarre that Coke is omitted as a choice. This took a while to clean up because again, service was lacking and it took us a while to get someone's attention that we needed tissues and not more straws, which is what we were presented with.The starters were good however I felt the Sultan Chops were quite bland. The coating was excessive and the meat was fair. No complaints about the chicken tikka or sheek kebabs, they tasted nice.We ordered 2 main chicken dishes and one of them turned out to be lamb. I'm not sure how they managed to get this wrong but with the lack of service and poor attention to our table, it didn't seem surprising at this point. We didn't have any issues with eating lamb so we accepted it and didn't want to waste food so we did not bring this up to anyone.Another point I wanted to mention - for a party of 3, the table we were allocated wasn't big enough for everything. There were more than a few times where I felt I could have tipped over my Coke bottle, or dropped my rice tray. This was caused by the lack of service to our table again, where the staff didn't seem to want to come over and help us clear some space for the incoming food. When they weren't serving us, all I saw them doing was clearing other tables which is strange they would prioritise those over us.The Desi Chilli Handi Chicken was a bit too dry - this didn't allow the flavours to really come out and some of the chicken pieces had some chewy cartilage which I had to spit out onto my plate.The Karahi Gosht Sultani (should have been Murgh Sultani) - this was okay as it was unexpected, however the ginger strips weren't a good idea to add - biting into one of these was as unpleasant as finding a cardamom seed in a curry. The lamb meat was soft enough that it wasn't chewy but nothing stood out to me in this dish.Finally we decided to order 2 desserts to kind of clear away the taste of the average food we had. Again, we had to grab a waiter's attention to get the dessert menu even though we've been sitting immobile for a while. It took roughly 15-20 mins for the 2x single scoops of Vanilla Dream and Lemon Sorbet to arrive. I personally had the Lemon Sorbet which was good.Overall, I would not come back to this restaurant.The service really killed my first time experience here.There were no checkups on us while we ate.The drink spillage was undoubtedly our fault but trying to communicate that we needed more tissues and glasses to pour our drinks into failed the first time when we were presented with more straws.The starter food was more enjoyable than the main dishes.We ordered 2 main dishes and one of them was the wrong one.Dessert took forever to arrive.

Excellent food & service once again. The starters were freshly made as were the mains. Above all the service from our waiter, Ali Raza was excellent. He served everything in a timely manner & made sure all our requirements were catered for.

Simply Excellent !!!! : place, décoration, staff, food . I really liked starters ( lamb chop and fish pakora: hot and spicy),main plate ( gosht biryani: spicy and delicious ) and dessert (Gajar Ka Halwa: really good )My colleagues enjoyed the different starters and plates as wellThe service was excellent : various waiters and waitresses, quick / efficient / helpfulThere is enough space between different tables so not noisy.The restaurant has its own car parkI’ll come back for sure

We made a 3 hour drive from London on a Sunday to visit a great food and it sure didn’t let us down. The food was honestly so nice and I would recommend anyone to visit! I ordered mix grill which is a must try with full of flavour choices. The naan breads are cut in perfect sharing size for you to dip into your curry dishes.In addition to the great food, came along the customer service. The lady who served us was excellent from the get go with explaining the menu and being very attentive even tho the restaurant was so busy! She checked in and made sure the food was at its finest.The dining experience was very accommodating especially if your coming here for a large group sit down. It’s a must try!

On our long drive back to London we decided to drown own sorrows at Tipu Sultans Birmingham after Manchester derby defeat. We were not disappointed with the food. The lamb chops were extremely tender and the variety of flavors from each dish was incredible and full of spices. Good food and decent service.
