The Golden Cup in East Staffordshire

Birthday lunch with family. Rachel made us so welcome (I even had a Happy birthday balloon despite being 69!!) Food, drinks and service all excellent. Thank you for making it a special day. The grandchildren really enjoyed playing in the garden afterwards.

It was a lovely meal for mother's Day, The staff was exceptional and the food was scrumptious. All cooked fresh, home cooking with generous portions. Highly recommended.

Where to begin? The indifferent food with armoured roast potatoes I couldn't get my knife through and left on the plate? Bland vegetables? Being told off by the landlady for daring to not have the starter in the set lunch menu yet expecting to pay the all-in price? Instead of the higher individual amounts she was adding up on her little piece of paper? All this creating a rather miserable experience. And where to end? A more serious comment - my companion informed the waitress of her dairy intolerance and was assured that no cream would be swirled onto the homemade tomato Soup of the Day. No cream was visually in evidence in the soup but within an hour the intolerance was certainly in evidence for my companion, adding even more misery to this miserable experience. When asked if there was a dairy free dessert, my companion was offered gluten free. Clearly, this kitchen has a lack of dietary knowledge not expected and not acceptable in food establishments these days. I have read many of the reviews for the Golden Cup and am beginning to think there might be two of them. One with wonderful food and staff - and the one which I and a few other reviewers visited. May you only visit the good one.

Booked Sunday lunch after reading reviews which read quite positive. We have not eaten out for such a long time as no matter where we go the food is not good. Today I am sorry to say was no different, food choice was three mains ? the food arrived potatoes over cooked and had the texture of being around for a long time the meal was not even luke warm "what a shame" service was good and the meat was OK.

Lovely village pub, well kept beer, good food very friendly staff. Plenty of parking, pool table and darts if you fancy a game too

Had a very nice meal, did not book in advance but managed to get a table. Staff were very pleasant, it is rumoured the landlady can be a bit abrupt but she was ok with usI think she is misunderstood. Prices were reasonable.

Stayed for overnight camping in our Motorhome. Very comfortable. We had Sunday lunch and took part in the quiz night on the evening. Thank you

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, even had a bit of banter after our meal with the owner which really added to our night! Great steak night, one that was ordered rare arrived well done, but was quickly rectified and nothing was too much trouble. Beautiful beer garden too!
