Where is The Bateman Arms?

🏠 Shobdon, Leominster HR6 9LX

"The Bateman Arms was built c.1750 by Sir James Bateman (Lord Mayor Of London) as a building where his Estate workers would collect on pay day. Over the years it became a staging post for weary Drovers to refresh themselves as they walked livestock from West Wales to markets in Birmingham and London. Today, Abbi Court and her team provide a warm welcome to both locals and the many business and leisure visitors who travel to the Marches throughout the year. With the rural splendour of Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Mid Wales on the doorstep, there's plenty to discover!"

Arrived as a party of four adults with two small dogs. Sunday lunch booked for 3pm. Received a lovely welcome from the friendly and helpful staff. The food excellent. Everyone's meal was spot-on. Presentation and quality of the food exceeded our expectations. Staff were very patient with the hyperactive dogs. Thank you and well done the Bateman Arms.

Super weekend spent at the Bateman Arms. Excellent food and varied locally sourced menu. Mixed local pub atmosphere with gastro pub trappings. Very comfortable and clean rooms. Staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. A great base for excellent walks both in Shoden and surrounding areas.

Had booked here for a lunch on the way to Kington. It is such a lovely place. Food is really nice a big portion that I could not finish. The bread and butter was equally as nice. Staff are really friendly and attentive. Will definitely go again if going that way.

Fantastic food, and staff very helpful without being overbearing. Children's portions not a problem. Brilliant.10 Aug 19 - New owners are in. A lot better than when they first moved in. Slowly improving certainly better than our first meal. Hope it continues

Just had a date night with my partner here, it was a last minute booking and they made space for us In the corner which was lovely. The staff were very nice and very accommodating of our needs. The service was a bit slow for the bill even though it was really quiet, best part was seeing the dogs around it made my night. Overall a good place, would come back and reccomend.

Had dinner here tonight and it was fabulous. Good selection of food. The blade of beef was outstanding and the chicken supreme equally as nice. Good local ales and spirits selection. Dessert options were delicious, can highly recommend the cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Great locally sourced produce, well cooked and fantastic value for money.

Great pub with a nice big beer garden. Wed/ Thurs any mains for 8 quid deal (lunch and dinner) is not to be missed. We stumbled upon it by chance and had a really nice sirloin steak and all the trimmings with the fried brie to start. Both were really good and very generous portions. Dog and family friendly - there is a little play house/slide for young children to play on. We will be back!
