Fantastic Gem of a hotel, Tasty food and welcoming staff. Our room had a spectacular view of the Wye

We visit the royal at least twice a month as it's just such a nice place to be. The staff are lovley; always happy to help and smiley. The foods great and well priced, plus the whole bar / dining area looks lovley. Been here many many times over the years and I'm sure we will be there many many more

Very friendly staff, very helpful. Lots of history. Own car park. Only downside room a bit dark to do make up lol...

Large comfortable bedroom, warm and clean and with lovely views over the Wye River. The staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. Food was 'pub grub', nothing exciting, but considering the very reasonable cost, good value for money. The dining room and bar were always busy, so table booking is advised. The hotel has dog friendly rooms and dogs are allowed in the bar at all times.

Lovely location. A pleasant bar with very good service. Always a good spot for a morning coffee but wish the cakes weren't always so cold! Interesting history being built on the site of a former Bishops Palace

Just went for a coffee with a friend. Staff were super friendly and helpful. We needed a gluten free snack option for which they had a lovely Bakewell slice. Their scones were also really good. Much less crowded in the afternoon than some of the cafes locally. Great views and a log fire

I went to the hotel for breakfast with my family. The hotel is perched on top of the Ross rock and as it is a relatively old building it has a bit of old world charm. I think it was nicely decorated in keeping with the building - if you modern boutique it is not the place for you. There is a lovely balcony/terrace that has spectacular views over the river Wye - in good weather you can eat out there. Unfortunately it was not good weather when I visited.Staff were helpful, mostly efficient and friendly. Our booked table was ready and our orders were taken in a timely manner. The food was delivered without too much of a wait but unfortunately some of the orders were wrong; however, the orders were corrected with out fuss once we pointed out the issues. Several of our group were vegetarians and these were catered for with nice alternatives. The food itself was of good quality and the 'fried' breakfasts were not greasy, for me I would have liked slightly more 'special' sausages. The prices were reasonable given the nice location and the quality of the food. I will be more than happy to go back, perhaps to stay overnight but definitely to take advantage of the balcony/terrace.

Lovely hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Reasonably priced, clean/well equipped rooms, handy for the town! Would definitely stay again!

Booked this hotel based on its good reviews and ratings. It was everything the reviews said it wasVery well situated, we had great views towards the river and the room was clean and tidy with good beds and a radiator that gave lots of heat when we needed it.Breakfast was delicious and served very professionally. Nothing seemed too much trouble from the ever smiling staff.Even check out at 11 suited us perfectly. The bathroom was a little small and tight but adequate. We booked a late Sunday lunch first in 4:00, always a risk when it's that late.My triple roast was lovely but the roast potatoes were very dry, dust like. My partner's rack of lamb didn't come with most of the items listed on the menu such as stuffing, pig in blanket and one item I can't remember. Staff apologised after checking what had gone wrong and a discount was given. She simply had the lamb, mash, seasonal veg and gravy and was disappointed.Service was great though. We'll book this hotel again if we're visiting the area again.

We stayed for 2 nights with a room overlooking the river and a balcony. The positives: comfortable room, nice breakfast, great views and dedicated motorcycle parking slot.Negatives: poor WiFi, grubby balcony and uninspiring menu choices.Overall it's a nice place and would return!
