Ordered the sea bream. Meal was absolutely fantastic. Top rate. So tasty, well presented and a generous portion. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. Menu is fairly expensive but not outrageous, however pints of beer are over £5 each!

Food was fantastic and the service from Siobahn was top class, her knowledge of wine and personal service really made us feel at home and nothing was too much for her!We would definitely recommend the Stagg and will be returning next time we are in the area!Just hope Siobahn has her new bottle opener for next time!

They were able to adjust something on the set menu to make it vegan, they did this with no fuss whatsoever. Really lovely meal, thank you.

Lovely food and beer, great service, good value considering the quality, looking forward to going back

Changed ownership recently. 3 course Sunday lunch is up from £22.50 to £30 - a 33 percent increase. The starter (deep fried ham hock in batter) was OK but a bit amateur. The roast beef mains was really good but seemed like a smaller portion, the Yorkshire pudding was not great and there was no cauliflower and cheese. The rhubarb and custard desert was very nice - highlight of the meal for me really. The service was pretty awful with a couple of young girls very obviously in training being instructed how to write down an order on a pad of paper and other basics. Nice enough but again just felt amateur. Overall we were very disappointed - this used to be arguably the best restaurant in the county but now it's just above average and far more expensive. It was not a bad experience and still a very nice Sunday lunch but about a third more expensive and at least a third less good overall. This place used to be really special and it just isn't any more. We will inevitably be back because options are limited round these parts but unlike before we won't be in a particular rush to do so.

Very good, food superb and depending on the waitress the level of service was from OK to great.

Before you get food you meet your hosts who are lovely. They'll greet your dog as warmly as you. 6 of us had 6 different dishes and we all said wow! Even the sharing mouthfuls resulted in wow! Couldn't fault it in any way. Beer was perfect, wine well chosen. Left feeling every pound was well spent.

Booked for a family meal following a 2 year stint living in Dubai. Booked it as we have been before and being Michelin starred we assumed we would get the level of service we have become accustomed too……… whilst the food was absolutely amazing, the female manager needs to have some customer service retraining . We tried to call to advise we were running 15mins late due to bad traffic and we couldn’t leave a message because the machine doesn’t record. Upon our arrival full of apologies we were greeted with a grumpy acknowledgement (couldn’t call it a welcome) and then moaned that we had a booking for 4 people , there has only been 3 in our family for almost 11 years! If the pub had been busy then maybe you could understand but there were about 8 other people in there when we arrived . The Stagg really needs to looking into the booking platform and customer service greeting ! That said the food was amazing as always and the waitresses were brilliant. Lovely good British pub, we will be back but just hope for a friendlier welcome .

Some years since we were last here. Stayed 2 nights and dined on both. Our bedroom was in the pub this time, previously we were in the Old Vicarage. It was spotless, great creaky wooden floors! As for the food, well it was amazingly sublime. Great quality ingredients beautifully cooked and presented. My husband had his eye on a particular dish on the sample website menu and Nicola surprised him with that the second night which was so kind of her. All the staff were friendly and professional too. Very much a recommend. Made to feel special.

Fantastic two night stay with good friends. Beautifully presented and comfortable guest accommodation. Cleverly designed garden area with seating and lots of fruit bearing shrubs and trees. Staff were extremely considerate and welcoming. Great selection of drinks from the bar. Meals were served in good time and were an exceptionally high standard. The lamb dish, pannacotta and vegetable wellington were certainly a hit during our two night stay.
